About
The Drover Steakhouse was established in 1977. For over three decades, The Drover has been the place to go in Omaha, Nebraska for a good steak. The rustic, vintage decor, fireplaces and dim lighting adds to the traditional steakhouse ambiance. Reservations are encouraged at The Drover due to its popularity. The signature whiskey marinade, available on cuts, such as the filet and the ribeye, is what sets The Drover apart from other steakhouses in the area. Shrimp, chicken and seafood entrees are all also available should a guest prefer an alternative to red meat. Burgers, appetizers and soups are options for those looking for lighter fare. No visit is complete without a trip to the salad bar. Not only is it a healthy choice, it is also known as one of the first salad bars in Omaha.

I stopped here with a friend for cocktails. The gentleman behind the bar on Wednesday was great to talk to, very friendly and had a new drink in front of you the moment you finished the last and the cocktails were on point.
I convinced myself to order a sirloin as a less expensive steak option, I wasn't planning on steak that night, but you get to drinking and whatnot and you get hungry and it sounded great. Although the sirloin is the lesser expensive steak option it tasted fantastic, and was cooked perfectly.
Great service, drinks, and a fantastic splurge meal on a whim. Hard to beat it!

I love the nostalgia of this retro treat. The host truly is "the most"; he welcomes you with a smile and a great sense of humor. The cocktail waitress is patient as you comb over the long list of specialty whiskeys. And the food... The food is absolutely divine! The potato soup tastes like Bisque, and I would've been happy with just a meal of this. Our steak was prepared to perfection, and the baked potato had some secret way it was baked that made it crispy on outside, and heavenly on the inside. Our crab legs were very good, but we were a little shocked on the sticker price...$100 for TWO crab legs! TWO! However, we could get over this, as the evening was great, but our waitress stopped the bliss. I am teetering between a 3 and 4 on this review, simply because of her. She was snotty, and short, and a smartass. As wonderful as the food was, we would simply get up and walk out if she ever approached our table again. Not worth ruining a beautiful Valentine's Day.

We originally had reservations at another steakhouse but worried about the dress code. That was not an issue at The Drover. We had a party of 7 for an 8:00 p.m. reservation on a Friday night and we almost walked in - past A LOT of other people without reservations who were waiting. The food was amazing, the staff was very fabulous. We had bacon-wrapped shrimp appetizers, drinks, Whiskey Filet, rib eye (they were out of prime rib by the time we got there), pork chops, and overall amazing food. The baked potatoes were amazing and you get your own tongs for the salad bar. Our group loved their asparagus too.

We pass through Omaha once a year as migrating snowbirds returning home from our winter away. For years we have used this one night in Omaha to enjoy Prime Rib at a long established restaurant but have been told for the past few years that we’ve been missing out by not going to Drover Restaurant for our Prime Rib. So this year we broke with our long standing tradition and went to the Drover. Upon arrival at our reservation time we were seated promptly and we did not wait any time at all for our water and menus.
One of the first things I noticed were the captains style chairs. Pleasing enough to look at but once seated the chair is small. Within minutes I was uncomfortable and remained so throughout our meal. We ordered and while enjoying our salads a table adjacent to us was being bussed and prepared for the next dining guests. Only the tabletop was sprayed with what I am hoping was sanitizer. Food debris remaining on the table was just swept from the table by the wiping action. It made me wonder “will the next customer be sitting in food debris?”. Additionally, chairs were not wiped so there is no way the chairs were sanitized for the next customers. Made me glad I had brought my own hand sanitizer and was using it frequently while seated at our table.
Was disappointed to not find Dorothy Lynch salad dressing at the salad bar. This is such a premium salad dressing and only regionally available. It is one of the things that sets the place we normally go for prime rib apart from all others.
Our Prime Rib was disappointing. At the very center we experienced the tenderness we expect for prime rib at this price ($10 more each than where I’ve been going since 1976). Working around the edges there were areas of gristle / sinew. We trimmed more fat than we are accustomed to. I’m not certain that what we were served was a Prime cut. I would place it somewhere between Choice and Select. And for this we were paying $10 more a plate than our usual restaurant ?
Our service, though, was outstanding. From our greeting at the host stand all the way through to the presentation of our bill we were treated very well.
In the end, we gave it a try and now can return to Brother Sebastian’s where we will enjoy a comfortable chair and the best Prime Rib served in any restaurant we have ever visited in the U.S. and abroad.

Were very surprised when we asked to split our bills between two couples waiter told me they only allow one bill per table. This has never been the policy when we've been there. We have always enjoyed the delicious steaks but were very disappointed this time. Two ordered prime rib which was extremely tough and raw even though they both requested medium. Waiter offered to exchange them so they took sirloin steaks which were also tough and very hard to cut. There definitely has been a change in the quality of meat and we will not be going back. Prices listed on Trip Advisor are much lower than actual and Drover website doesn't even list any prices. All around disappointing evening.

Wow, what a difference a day makes. We ate here twice on a recent trip to Omaha. Our first dinner was exceptional; great service, well paced food delivery, excellent steaks, great desserts, etc.. Five star review, without a doubt. Then came night #2; ignored by server to take food order but had three separate people come to take our drink order, two of them came twice, for a total of five drink order requests before our server could be bothered to take our food order. The food took so incredibly long, we actually had to ask the drink order people (who came two or three more times after the food order was placed) if we were forgotten about in the kitchen. The food finally arrived and the steaks were nowhere near as good as the first night. Shame to say it, it was a step above Outback but that’s all. They were well flavored but had large chunks of fat on them and were gristly. We were then completely ignored until we had to go looking for someone to get our check. We didn’t bother with dessert. We just wanted to finally be able to get out of there. One star review, being generous. We can’t imagine how we had such a wonderful experience followed so closely by a miserable one. Not sure if we will return.

Went for an early dinner without a reservation on a Thursday evening. We were lucky to get in. After a long wait at the bar, we were shown our table. We then took the salad bar. After a long wait, our steaks arrive. They were great. Unfortunately, the smallest steak was 10 oz which meant that we would have leftover steak for lunch the next day. Good ambience. Wish the service could have been better.

The whiskey marinated steaks are some of the best pieces of red meat I’ve ever had. Absolutely incredible flavor and tenderness. The potato soup was delicious as well as the other sides. Go here if you want a truly incredible dinner!

The Drover is really quite an amazing story of restaurant success. I’ve dined here many times over the past 25 years. Most restaurants wax and wane, come and go, through seasons of success and seasons of challenge. The Drover somehow always seems to thrive. The secret, I believe, is in the simplicity of its menu, the consistency of its food, and in the rock-solid belief of its owners and management in their vision for what the Drover is and should be.
Loyalty is deep here. Management is very loyal to its consistent, repeat customers. Customers are loyal to this place also, waiting patiently after a devastating fire for the place they loved to return again. The Drover did not disappoint them. It came back, mostly just like it was before the fire , friendly, staffed with real pros, and managed well with the Whiskey Steaks, the cold fresh salad bar, the excellent drinks, and the cozy, secluded atmosphere of multiple dining rooms. I love this place!
In my last visit I dined with four business colleagues and we were expertly cared for by our server, Aly. We enjoyed great steaks, marinated and cooked to perfection, delicious sides, soups, and salad bar. We topped it off with a unique twist on cheesecake from their excellent dessert menu.
If you’re a regular, like me, I don’t need to sell you on The Drover. If you haven’t dined there you should. I predict you too will love this place, its food, its staff, and its history. And then you, like me, can be part of The Drover.

Service was quick and very pleasant. Pricing for the portion sizes was excellent. Nothing fancy. They just execute on all of the basics. Prime Rib was tender, cooked a perfect medium rare and delicious. Nice hot baked potato and simply prepared asparagus made for a nice meal. If you don’t leave full, you did something wrong.

My wife and I enjoyed a day-after Valentine's Day dinner at the Drover. It's tucked away west off 72nd Street and north of Mercy Road. We had a 5 o'clock reservation, and the place filled quickly. (During our meal, a walk-up customer was told the wait would be an hour.) Even though it was busy, the service was great and the food fantastic. The steaks are marinated in whiskey and very tender. Yes, it's a bit on the pricey side, but it's worth every cent.

Decent, for price expected more really. Grilled asparagus was decent, potato soup was flavorful, steak just quite average. Whiskey rib-eye, wasn’t cooked as ordered, medium rare, but much of the steak medium/well done. Quality of steak for price wasn’t matching. Service was very good, and the place has a quaint, eclectic allure. Drink was overly strong, but whiskey recommended wasn’t very good. Thought the whiskey steak flavoring, which I was a sucker for the name would have a more distinct or flavorful taste. With the average steak hovering over $50 you’d expect a great marbleized piece of meat, it was a run of the mill rib-eye you’d pay $14 at the grocery store, if that.

The food is not worth the prices. Steaks good, but not great. Sides are nothing special. The service definitely did not make an enjoyable dinner. We had to flag the waitress down to get water refills . . . a pet peeve of mine. One steak was overcooked -- waitress did not apologize or handle the situation well. She was brusk throughout every interaction with our table.

Went for a Friday night with another couple. Restaurant was packed but still were seated immediately. Large facility so they can seat a lot of people. Alyssa was our server and did an exceptional job for us which always enhances my dining experience. Whiskey steaks are their claim to fame and were delicious. We had filets and a ribeye and were very happy with our meals. Highly recommend for a great dining experience.... menu is more than just steaks too

For 13+ years, the Drover has been my "go to" steakhouse in Omaha. I loved everything about it from the old school restaurant feel, to the chilled salad plates but especially for the prime rib. The whisky dip flavor is phenomenal.
But the problem now is the quality of the meat and it has been going on for some time. The flavor is still good because of the marinade but the texture is very off putting. I will not be going back, at least not until I hear changes have been made to correct this unfortunate mistake.
Dear Drover: For the record, please don't mind spending a little bit more for quality. If you have to raise the prices a little bit to get better cuts, PLEASE do so and do it soon.
