We stumbled upon Matstofan one evening and ended up eating there because our younger son Mats fell in love with the name! It was one of the best meals we had in Iceland. And Mats has adopted the name of this quaint little restaurant as his youtube channel as a result of such a pleasant experience.

It was a nice change to eat Philippine food at this restaurant after travelling the Ring Road. We found that the servings in most Icelndic restaurants were small so it was nice to get a big portion at this restaurant. We ordered the noodle dish, the chicken curry and the stir fry vegetables. It was served with rice and they... More

Very basic restaurant as far as the decor and atmosphere but the food was freshly prepared and tasted good. After many nights of fish and potatoes I was thrilled to have a dish with pork and rice. We arrived shortly after it opened for dinner and were seated right away. Reasonably priced draft beer and a full bar. The restaurant... More

I had some really good noodles but i felt bored in there. The waitress was unsmiling and seemed tired of her business. But the food was fine and it was rather cheap. There is nothing cozy about this place but it is fine for a quick bite.

Great food that is prepared from scratch. Beer reasonably priced. The owner shared her history in coming to Iceland. Food service is good but the food takes a while. For me it shows they take care in preparing each dish.

It was our first time in Borgarnes and we were just walking around looking at menu's around our guesthouse. Matstofan was our first stop but we really wanted to see a few other menu's before we decided. We read Matstofan was a local favorite, we thought in the end how can you go wrong? Well you can't. It is a... More

Borgarnes is such a small unassuming town that the last thing you'd think to find here is a Filipino restaurant. But this little hole in the wall was down the street from our hotel and after a week in Iceland, my companions and I were tired of fish. We came in here, claimed a table, a young lady appeared to... Being Filipino American, it was a treat to see this restaurant! It looked closed as we past it a couple of times but we walked in when it was surely open! Cora, the owner, greeted us warmly and took our order. NOTE: it took a while to get our food but it's because Cora cooks it herself from scratch in... More

So, you can order your food, eat, pay, leave, have kids, and then die. OR, you can have a delightful conversation with the host and learn all about her native Philippines in between the visits she takes to the kitchen to cook your food. Then eat and leave feeling happy about yourself and the world. Your choice. (p.s. the food... More
