Let's face it. Walking up a flight of stairs in the middle of VCU to what looks like a speakeasy is inconsistent with customary norms of fine dining. The norms have met their demise. It's magnificent. Plump oysters or scungili (conche cerviche) to start and rock fish or veal in many ways to finish. Unless you want spaghetti with sausage,... More

This used to be our go-to place for a nice meal ... and always had the freshest and best fish selection. Maybe this week was just too much for them. We called to see if we could make a reservation and at first they said yes but then they said no, 'just come in and we will seat you next.'... More

We had a roundtable that held all 10 members of our family for a birthday dinner celebration. The family style servings included our usual starters of white beans, squid & arugula, plus fried oysters. Main entrees included Rockfish, Veal Marsala & a couple pasta dishes. We consumed 2 bottles each of house red & white. We had gelato ice cream... More

We enjoyed our visit, and commend the busy atmosphere, good service, menu, and prices. We found the protein (soft shell crabs, salmon, duck leg) all over-salted. The marinara sauce is perfect, best I have had in a long time. I would go with very traditional pasta menu items and avoid the specials based on this our first experience. Caution: if... More

I loved this place! I'd heard great things about it and for good reason. It's a hole in the wall that I would have never noticed had I not been looking for it. The putanesca was amazing as was the spicy dish (can't remember what it was called) that I ordered. The portions are large and full of flavor, the... More

You will walk this place and never think to go in which is a huge mistake. The sign does not represent the place, but it does let you know you are in the right place. Hung over a non-descript door, the sign really looks like it is left over from the 1960's and when you open the door and see... More

We had no problem getting a table on a Monday night, although it was still crowded, noisy fun. Our group shared the scungilli ceviche before moving on to gargantuan portions of pasta! The puttanesca, the mixed seafood, the squid napoletana, the amatriciana....ALL were excellent, and each dish could have easily served 3 people. Everything was reasonably priced - the puttanesca... Loved loved loved Edo's Squid. Atmosphere was wonderful starting with the walk up to the second floor. Once inside the noise level was very high and the tables were on top of each other, but it worked. Some of the best seafood I have ever eaten. Very large portions!

It looks like a dive on the outside, and in order to get in you have to climb a steep stairwell that looks like the entrance to the kitchen. It's confusing. But once you find it...the place is hopping with business. It's very popular with Richmonders. We had the brocoletti with pine nuts as an appetizer. Perfect! Very garlicky but... More

This trattoria with simple exquisite dishes in a humble setting next to the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) hits the mark for lunch or dinner with family and friends. (Just close your eyes as you enter and climb the stairs as you enter the salon - passing the cleaning brooms and mops leaning against the wall.) The deep fried calamari appetizers... More
