Stopped here with a group of friends and this was a great spot for dinner. It typically very crowded but we only had to wait 10 minutes. Unique appetizers and main dishes.

Who would have thought that starters of Brussels sprouts and griddled cauliflower could be so incredibly tasty? But don't let me give you the impression that the food here is vegetarian, or even vegetable-focused. The steak that one of our party had was apparently very good, and the burger that my wife ate was "very very good". The food was... More

Our family of six had dinner at The Copper Onion. All dishes were excellent. The trout, stroganoff, and hamburger were especially good. The sides of beets and brussel sprouts were unique and fabulous. The cauliflower appetizer was also unusual and outstanding. Service was very good: friendly, efficient, and helpful. The fetticini dish was not served with the other meals. The... More

I'm a local and we love this place! Every time my Midwestern in-laws are in town we bring them to the Copper Onion because the salads and burgers are great. And for those who like more eclectic or fancier fare, the duck is amazing. They also have great sides, small plates, and vegetarian options. The atmosphere is fun and lively.... More

We ate at The Copper Onion over 5 years ago and were underwhelmed. Nothing bad, just nothing notable. Decided to try it again during Sundance before a film at the Boradway theater next door, and had a much better experience. Waitstaff was attentive. Wine list was refreshingly unique - we had an Italian Schiava served chilled with our beef tartare... More

This place is really good. Kind of a fancy vibe, but lots of hipsters too, so wearing a beanie would be acceptable. Good mix of people. The staff is good, and the chef great. Their beef stroganoff and meatloaf are the best I've ever had. I'm pretty sure the chef is famous for his ricotta dumplings. And, it's right next... More

We are fairly regular visitors to the SLC area and generally not been impressed by the food. The Copper Onion was recommended to us by a local for lunch. We tried it and thought that the spit pea soup (with ham and bacon) was delicious and the hamburgers were perfectly cooked, used Niman Ranch beef, and were the best tasting... More

I was here this past weekend, recommended by some friends. Overall, it's a great place. Loved the vibe. Copper ceilings, a fun bar scene, good food and great service. My friend and I had the griddled cauliflower to start - a huge chunk of cauliflower griddled with breadcrums, capers, etc - delicious. I had the pork and my friend had... More

This is clearly the cool (hot?) spot in SLC. I sat at the bar & watched the kitchen work – these are pros and the food they’re turning out is testimony. I had delicious split pea soup and one of the best Romaine salads I’ve ever had – perfect greens, crunchy bits on top, and they aced the anchovy dressing.... More

Came here for the first time during lunch. I was intrigued by the varied menu choices which didn't fit in a box. The cooking is excellent and fresh though portions are on the smaller side. Sometimes quality trumps quantity. I ordered a salad which was good though not memorable. On the other hand I had the pasta carbonara which was... More

Description
The Copper Onion is one of the new additions to the growing Utah foodie scene. Former NYC chef (and native Utahan) Ryan Lowder now brings his personal take on New American cuisine to his own kitchen with an approach inspired by his passion for Utah’s outstanding farmstead ingredients and his experience as a chef cooking his way through Barcelona, NYC and South America. The Copper Onion serves a wide array of vegetable side dishes and a menu designed to explore and share, with plates such as Ricotta dumplings with lemon, sage and brown butter and Braised Pork Belly with shaved Brussels sprouts and pickled celeriac. Entrees include Fresh house-made papparedelle with lamb ragout and Duck Confit with butternut squash and roasted mushroom caps. An insistent focus on the freshest and best is paramount; sausages and burgers are ground daily, bread is baked and ice cream is made in house, offering casual diners an exceptional experience at affordable prices.
