Good food. Nice staff. Neat place. Mostly take out, including tamales by the dozen. Tacos are huge, with lots of well seasoned meat. There is outside seating with grass. My kids had a good time running around. There are an outlet where we charged up. They do not have alcohol. I suspect you could bring your own and drink in... More

Not only is this one of the best places I have ever experienced for Southwest food, it may be the ultimate "Whole in the Wall." My wife and I were cruising downtown Albuquerque looking for a good place to eat, but had to make an unintended turn due to the one way streets. The Gods were with us when we... More

I found this place online and ever since the first visit haven't forgot about how amazing the food is! My favorite is the enchilada dish. Love the chips. Bottled cokes is a bonus. At times I want to drop everything and make a trip to Alb just to order food from here. Of course every place has their cons and... More

My husband and were making our way back from Grand Canyon to Ohio. We stopped in Albaquerque for dinner, I wanted authenic tamales. El Modelo's came up with high reviews. It's a little out of the way, but both my husband and I both agree it is worth the trip and the wait. We had the best tamales we have... More

My girlfriend is from Georgia and when she moved to Albuquerque she wanted some good New Mexican food. I took her to El Modelo and suggested the carne adovada and a sopapilla and she is now hooked on them. We go quite often because she gets the craving. We've tried other places around Albuquerque but this is our favorite.

I enjoyed El Modelo. So did our dog with whom we were able to enjoy the company of on the picnic tables beside the parking area (there are more on the other side) The meals are huge. I ordered the Mexican platter (less than $10) - tostada, chili spare rib, tamale, enchilada with beans, rice, chili w/ meat and 2... More

A dozen pork tamales with red chili, refried beans, Mexican rice, chips and salsa. Tamales are large with lots of meat with a thin layer of masa. The refrieds and rice were excellent. Chips and salsa are a great accompaniment. Two tamales are more than a meal for an adult. Four adults and two children. Plenty of leftovers for lunch... More

After a tiring day on the road, we wanted Mexican, and searched Trip Adviser for something close to our hotel. El Modelo seemed high on the list, so we headed over. We thought it would be a place to sit down and relax, well . . . sort of. The place is carry-out, with some picnic tables on the edge... More

We ordered the ribs, a special (pork) burrito, a stuffed sopapilla, and some guacamole. Although there are some outside tables, we like most patrons, carried our food out (and our order must have weighed 5 lb). The ribs and burrito were both fairly spicy, but had good flavor. I ordered the sopapilla based on reviews here and the recommendation of... More

WOW. I had Red Chile Ribs-awesome flavor, moist fall off the bone ribs with just the right amount of spice for lunch. They came smothered in red chile and accompanied by a few tortilla Chips. Others in my Take Out party had stuffed Sopapillas, Green Chile Stew, Burritos etc and it was all amazing, I cant wait to get back,... More
