I ate at La Fogata this past week with a large group. We were seated promptly and asked our drink orders. I had the enchiladas verdes. I found these to be somewhat dry and not really too spicy. The queso was not remarkable. The guacamole was very good. The Mariachi band, while enjoyable was quite loud. The most troubling thing... More

A friend took my wife and I to eat here. It was an early dinner. The dining experience is a bit unique. Patrons are outside but inside a pergola. Small fountain with running water added to the ambience. The waitresses spoke excellent English. Great tourist spot but off the beaten path. Food was excellent even with a nice breeze in... More

Really? The food is nothing exceptional or special. My chile rellenos was over cooked with no flavor. The refried beans were runny and the rice was pathetic. The veggie poblano is a pure joke. Boiled veggies in a split undercooked poblano served with a little white sauce was insipid. What a waste of time, money and effort. Nope. Not a... More

A group of us went for dinner..we sat on the patio under the live oaks...only issue was the falling leaves from the oak tree that fell on the table. Food is good and reasonably priced. I tried the Enchiladas Verde that came with rice and beans. Several had margaritas..regular and mango. Chips and salsa are plentiful while you wait for... More

Antonio waited on us on Feb 18, 2017. There were four of us--friends from elementary school days, long ago. We decided to sample some of the different foods on the menu. Oh, my gosh! I'm not big on Mexican foods, but that was very good! And the margarita was the best, ever!. In fact, it was TOO good. Antonio took... More

We ate here in 2011 and loved it. It’s still great. The shrubs and trees around the restaurant make it feel very private. We sat in a lovely, well-shaded outdoor area next to a fountain. Our waiter, Martin, provided excellent service. We celebrated National Margarita Day appropriately, and enjoyed fish tacos, carne adobado, and guacamole.

Excellent setting with seating indoor and out. Good food and drinks. Older wait staff has favorites over newcomers but still does a good job. Must stop for first time visitors to San Antonio.

Description
Founded in 1978, we have been fire-roasting our famous salsa and mixing our legendary margaritas for 35 years, serving an average of 450 guests daily—that’s right, 6,000 (or more) happy diners enjoy the restaurant each week. That’s an amazing feat for a San Antonio Mexican restaurant that started as little more than a taco stand in a former neighborhood Dairy Queen.

Our staff is dedicated to your fun!

The La Fogata team includes staff members who have been on the serving line since 1978. The same cook has been creating the restaurant’s award-winning salsa for 24 years. In an industry known for its high turnover, even the wait staff includes long-time La Fogata veterans, so Dwight is surrounded by a dedicated team who knows the business and shares his passion for the restaurant.
