Our parents recently moved to the Sitka Pioneer's Home and our family has adopted Sitka as the new Center of our Universe. What a blessing to discover the Best Coffee Shop just across the street at the Back Door. Just incredibly good coffee, pastries, lunches soups. Excellent service, smiles and very cosy atmosphere. Thank you for making Life so Good,... More

Great coffee and terrific blackberry pie. You can sit and visit in this quiet coffee shop in the back of a bookstore on the back side of downtown. The room is full of locals chatting, local newspapers lying around (we found out about a free concert the following evening), and interesting art work on display. Oh yes, the coffee was... More

We found this terrific little coffee shop after reading other reviews. Just look for the bookstore on the main street and go behind it. It's open quite early so that we were able to squeeze in a second visit before our plane left our last morning. Muffins and scones are delicious (warm from the oven) and the coffee is great.... Baked goods tasty and fresh. Cocoa and coffee fine. Like low ligthening, the friendly staff, and the comfy seating. Small, intimate, easy place to hang out.

I stumbled across this little gem behind the downtown bookstore. I wanted to keep it a secret but I just couldn't. Lovely, interesting and so good! Typically deliciuos coffee and sweets with a down home, true Alaskan vibe.

The Back Door Cafe is a very unique location. The entrance is at the rear of a building, a bit hard to find at first, but once you made it you will find the search was worthwhile. It smells of fresh backed bread and cookies. The serve locally roasted coffee and you will find a lot of locals at the... More

We stopped here a few times during our stay. It is a very cute and cozy little shop. The coffee was about what you could find anywhere, but the place smells AMAZING, all the time! All the food is baked in house and it's all delicious. Nice place to sit and read the newspaper on a rainy day.

During a week's visit, we searched all over Sitka for locally made bread and fortunately found that there would be challah at the Back Door the next day and that we could reserve a loaf. It was the best challah we have ever had anywhere--soft and moist in the middle, slightly crusty, and delicious. We wished we had reserved two... More

The coffee was delicious, as was the scone. Both local and homemade. The staff were busy but efficient and pleasant while they scrambled around their tiny place. Appears to be a local favorite, as well.
