(Bar Only): The White Horse bills itself as the oldest continuously-operating tavern in the country (starting out as a house in 1652 and becoming a tavern in 1673), and it is definitely worth a stop if you can get in. The bar itself is tiny, and they do not allow it to get crowded - no standing-room only – so... More

There were six of us for dinner and we could not have had a better experience. The food was excellent, most folks had the beef special and two had the swordfish. Both were wonderful. The Calamari was a big hit and the deserts were shared and delicious. our waiter had a great oral history of the restaurant that we all... More

2 of us went in on Saturday late afternoon to check it out. Stepped in door and waited a few minutes longer than you'd expect. A number of staff walked by as we waited. (BTW not much of a crowd) Finally someone asked if we'd been helped. We wanted to sit in bar area as there was a fire in... More

This could have been a perfect evening, but it was not. Our waiter was rude and I had to send my meal back as it was not prepared as requested. Very dissapointed as this was highly recommended.

Came here for our anniversary dinner, had a great spot by the fire. Based on the reviews of this place I thought we were in for a great meal. My husband had the foie gras appetizer which he said did not taste good, very bitter. I had the wedge which was fine. On to dinner.. I ordered the beef wellington,... More

The building is lovely with fireplaces all over, well-worn wood floors, beams overhead, historic artwork. Food was good, with nice portions. It *should* be one of the best restaurants in town, but I give it a 4 because: Although we had a reservation, we had a long wait. The servers disappeared for long periods without checking on how food was... More

Everything was excellent: location, atmosphere and service and oh yes the food. I had the Lobster Mac and even eating small bites there was at least one piece of lobster per bite and not pea sized bites either. Attentive service from Dominick L and very nicely restored, authentic interior, probably like it was 340 years ago. Along with Brick Alley... More

My first dinner at the White Horse with friends in October encouraged a second dinner w DH last night and I wasn't disappointed. This time I ordered the scallops which were very tasty if not a smudge overcooked for my taste. The lobster bisque was perfect- not all creme, but a lovely, aromatic and very "lobster-y" version with visible pieces... More

We visited Newport on a post holiday trip to see the mansions decorated for the holidays. It's a very quiet time of year so it was easy to get reservations almost anywhere that was open. We had driven by the White Horse Tavern a few times on our travels around the city as it was close to ournhotel so decided... More
