Quick decision to dine at Gyotaku on a Friday night.....went early (by 6:00 PM) for the specials and was not disappointed. Crab appetizer hit the spot - a Kirin and then Asahi beers rounded out the first round of orders. Salads, Butterfish, Teriyaki steak and sushi were the main course - all very good! Customer service was top-notch, friendly, very... More

Maybe I have been spoiled by other good restaurants that our Honolulu hosts took us to, but this restaurant sat at the bottom of the list during our recent trip there. Granted it was a busy Saturday night, which may be why we felt rushed by the waiter who did not seem to have the patience to allow us enough... More

Very good family Japanese food in the area on east oahu, but it can be pricy so the ordering should be for special occasions.

I had the Filet of the tonkatsu on the menu and found that it was extremely tender, almost like the tonkatsu in Japan. Nicely deep fried to a crispy consistency outside, but juicy and tender inside. Oishii! There was a generous amount of thinly shredded cabbage also like in Japan. No free seconds on the shredded cabbage though, shucks! Three... More

We go to Gyotaku about once each month. It's a nice family restaurant with tasty Japanese food. Service is fast and their staff is very helpful.

Service was extremely slow and now Gyotaku has decided to add an additional 4% service charge for kitchen wait staff. Haven't seen this new "fee" at other local restaurants so Gyotaku has decided to pass along their cost of doing business to their customers. When given a choice we will patronize other businesses who don't add more forced service charges... More

We use to love dining here and would come quite often. It was one of the few places that we wouldn't mind bring guests to. Our last visit we encountered a business change where they started to charge 4% additional fee to the check for back of house service. I was shocked at the fee since we normally tip 20... More
