This is one of my all time favorite places to go whenever I go to Honolulu. It is a little place, family run, hard to park, but the food is to die for. Large portions, very tasty and reasonably priced. I think they are only open from 11 - 2, no dinner, but so worth it.

Still one of the best in town, and certainly unassuming in locale and atmosphere. Very small inside, and the food preparation and variety are home runs. At this meal we had a steak dish, a chicken dish and a seafood dish. Excellent, only topped by the personal service from the owners. Cash only, but very reasonably priced.

In a industrial area away from the tourist area, you will find a wonderful home style Japanese restaurant. Reccomended by our friends from Honolulu, this is a cash only joint with a great menu. The vegetable saimin is great along with the chicken. In fact, we shared most of the dishes. The portions are generous but if you are really... More

Ethel's is famous in Japan and we decided to find out what the hype was all about. Upon parking I could not believe we were in the right place. It does not really look like much and the neighborhood is not really appealing. We were instructed to sign in by a grumpy employee or family member. So we waited a... More

I have been eating here over 20 years now and the food is always at its best. The tataki, breakfast special, taco rice, and bitter melon pork just a few of my favorites. I had a fish special, my husband chicken. As everywhere in Oahu everything was super fresh, especially the fish. Totally off the beaten track and you may have to sit outside for a few minutes to get a table - but absolutely worth it. The real deal

The menu is simple local fusion food. Chef Bobby is very creative and has specials regularly. Minaka the manager says I have only five favorites but I surprise her sometimes. We love Ethel's and have been eat there every week for about 15 years. We see a lot of top Chefs and celebrities dining there, something must be right. Please... More

Our first trip to Ethel's made us believers. Having lived in Japan we appreciated the authentic tastes and presentation of food. We can see why people line up to eat here. Easy to find right off Nimitz. Don't be put off by the area. It is worth the trip for sure.

A local took me. Not sure I would have tried it without a recommendation. In an industrial area, only seats about 35 people at most. Old diner style tables. Cinderblock walls. Paper napkins. It is all about the food - presentation, quality, quantity, variety, and price. Pound for pound one of the best restaurants I have ever dined at. Wonderful.... More

Pig's feet soup, mochiko chicken, deep fried turkey tails, salmon with macnut watercress pesto, what more can you want? This place has about 10 or 12 seats and people wait in line to get in. You sit with strangers and make friends with Ethel.
