Just looking for a nice place to eat near the harbor, my wife and I came upon this restaurant. Without a reservation, we were welcomed inside! We were hoping to sit outside, but indoors was quaint with just a couple tables. Shortly after we arrived,...a local family arrived and the volume increased dramatically! We just enjoyed our vermentino and excellent food and service! The local diners were also very friendly, so if you want an excellent meal where the locals dine, this is the place!!More

We went to il ghiottone six years ago and it left us so happy that this year we went back again. What a fantastic surprise seeing that their food has only improved! The products they use are really fresh, and the chef cooks like an...angel. We liked it so much that we went back three times! Everything we ordered was delicious, but special mention to the chiusoni (pasta with seafood) and the mini seadas. After having tried many restaurants in the island this is without hesitation the best, not to be missed.More

Chef was pretty unfriendly because we were 10 minutes to late, had octopus for starter, it had a texture like rubber, and tasted pretty bad, pasta was ok, but very small portion and it was very expensive!

Our dinner at Il Ghiottone was the best we had during our holiday in La Maddalena. They were fully booked the first night we tried to dine there, so we ended up making a reservation for the following night. The tuna tartare appetizer was perfect...and so were the two seafood pastas that we ordered. Would absolutely recommend dining here, just try to book your table in advance.More

You need to reserve to get one of the few tables of this cute restaurant. You get to choose between 3 possibilities for each dish (antipasti, primo, secondo,...) The food is very refined, well presented and tasty. Good value for the money.

This place is small, three tables outside and five inside. Reservations are a must! Our reservation was for 8:00, but we were seated when we walked up at 7:30. They do two settings so the pace was good. They need you out by 9:30, but...we never felt rushed. The menu changes based on what is available and good. We started with the ubiquitous assorted seafood starter. It included breaded and fried stingray, fried anchovies, marinated sardines in a mustard sauce, marinated dogfish, and marinated octopus. We shared the local pasta with assorted seafood. It looked like gnocchi, but it was made with flour, not potato. We selected a local red wine from their reasonably priced list. For entrees we selected the smoked tuna. If you closed your eyes, you would think it was a smoked porkchop. We also ordered the grilled prawns in a honey orange sauce. We had ordered this dish this earlier in the trip, but the sauce was perfect this time. We skipped desert. We did not walk enough that day.More

It took me four summers to book a table in this cosy place with a very limited number of tables. Passing by previously I though that being located near the fish boats they were preparing fish dishes according to availability of the day. I was...totally wrong. The menu is fixed. Of the four dishes we tried none of them included fresh fish. What a disappointment!More

Il Ghiottone has 5 tables and two sittings at 20.00 and 21.40 and you need to book. The choice of food is limited and all fish. Which is what you want in a restaurant. Between us we had tuna tartare, spaghetti with crabs, huge prawns...and fritto misto. All were excellent. A great place.More

Been there with my wife and she asked for a pasta with sea food and she loved it! The owner nice enough to make sure the plate was cooked without a shrimp. Also, we had an outstanding tuna and the local white wine suggested by...the owner was very good (4.1 at vivino). Small spot with 5 tables. Go for it, no mistake if you like sea food.More
