Best restaurant I ate in La Maddalena. It is an old and a bit worn down place, but the food is made with great attention and love. Especially the zuppe di frutti di mare was a hit, full of flavor, great on a colder day....Service is correct.More

Very mediocre restaurant, owner dishonest, overcharged is; when we questioned bill he got his friends to threaten us physically. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

We visited this restaurant in La Madalena Sardinia on 19th September. I ordered a tuna steak with salad for €16. The waiter (who I believe is also the proprietor) persuaded me to change my order to Sea Bream which was the catch of the day....(A similar incident happened in a restaurant in Cagliari a few days previously where I was charged €16 also for Sea Bream). My husband, who can speak some Italian, asked if it came with any salad or vegetables and we were told it did not so I ordered some grilled vegetables for €6. At no time did the Proprietor tell us that we would be charged €6 per kilo of fish or that the fish would weigh 600 grams, which was much more fish than I needed. At this point in time the waiter had taken away the menus so we couldn’t check prices and in any event we had assumed the price would be comparable to the Tuna (as it had been in Cagliari). When the bill arrived we were absolutely shocked to see that he had charged €36 for the fish. With the added €6 for the vegetables my plate of food was €42 which in itself was almost half of the whole final bill including 2 starters, my husband’s main course, water and wine. We complained to the Proprietor and explained why we were dissatisfied with what had occurred (ie. the reasons given above) and the fact that he had charged for the weight of the whole fish - including the head and tail which were obviously inedible - and we suggested a compromise of €70. He refused and became aggressive and goaded some other customers (locals) to support him, one of whom threatened my husband by saying in Italian,”You pay or I make you pay” - implying physical measures. In fact his wife/ girlfriend was holding him back. At this point we felt it had gone far enough as we were feeling physically worried for our safety, so under duress we paid the whole bill. Calling the police was also discussed. Had the Proprietor accepted my original order of Tuna, the bill would have been €61 instead of €87 so we feel our compromise offer of €70 was more than fair This restaurant owner is deliberately misleading customers and gives a bad name to Sardinian restauranteurs, whom from our experience were all honest apart from him. In fact the last meal we had, the waiter suggested we could share a starter rather than have one each because the portions were generous. He was a helpful and honest waiter unlike the one from Il GottoMore

Tried to up-sell at every opportunity. Also check your bill. Adding items we had not ordered. We sent back a steak as it was too rare for one of our party and it disappeared for 10= minutes until I went in to find out what...happened. Perhaps it was an off day for them.More

I seldomly write reviews, however we had a surprisingly very pleasant lunch today. I have read most of the negative reviews and they do not represent our experience today. This is a very good restaurant, reasonably priced for the quality of food they serve. I...would recommend it to anyone who visits La Maddalene for family with children, alone or for business.More

We had a lovely dinner with local specialities like pasta-risotto with sea food. Good service, nice plain setting and a happy evening.

First I point out that, to tourists who don't speak Italian, this restaurant offers a very good service, which is not something you always find in the island La Maddalena unfortunately. But the restaurant is ridiculously overpriced. It starts with the famous "coperto" that costs...5 euros, while most of similar restaurants charge 1 or 1,5 euros. Also, there is no "primo piato" for less than 20 euros and a side salad ("contorno") costs you 18 euros! I could find food of similar quality in other restaurants spending far less than here.More

You can already say it's worth going there since it's quite hidden, on the side of the church square. The sea food was really good, and people extremely nice!

We visited il gotto twice during our three days trip on the Maddalena island. The food is excellent, we recommend the spaghetti allo scoglio. The second night we went it was on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was fully booked but they still managed to...fit us in. Wonderful service. We had a pizza as well. We noticed many locals stop by to get take out pizzas!More

Quite why people rate the Maddalena islands is a bit of a mystery. You need a car ferry or boat of some description to reach it, the beaches are minuscule and over-run in high season, parking for the beaches and the single track roads to...the beaches are a nightmare. At least we found a decent lunch in the back-streets of tacky La Maddalena itself. Good pasta with spiny lobster, spaghetti with clams and very good home-made tiramisu. But my advice: stay on the mainland and admire the view from the road from Palau to Cannigione.More
