Always enjoyed a pint of real ale at this traditional bar, so very sad to see it had closed when I last went through Matlock Bath. Understand that the Indian restaurant next door will be expanding into the bar, so hope the new owners keep the old fashioned bar ambiance when the conversions done.

This very good pub has been sold by Marsden's, the owner, to the Balti restaurant next door for the expansion of their business. Great shame! Peering through the window, it looks like it could open now, even pump lights on. There are no notices or indications to say what has happened. Apparently Shiny brewer who were running until recently were... More

The staff stood around waiting for someone else other than them to serve me. Them when the food came it was a little odd.

Our dog's favourite pub in Matlock Bath! Always fresh water in a bowl inside and free dog treats behind the bar. We humans love the real ales and cider, always a good range kept in good condition. Homemade scotch eggs are delicious, good range of bar snacks and light bites. Bar staff and locals friendly and welcoming. A proper pub!

Called in here walking home from Matlock bath after an afternoon there with our friends, I really fancied a sweet cider which the girl behind the bar give me a small sample glass of a Scottish sweet cider to try and ended up with me and my partner getting a couple of pints. Excellent atmosphere and great service with someone... More

Nice selection of local ciders. Lots of local real ales on offer. Friendly staff and locals. Outside seating was pleasant on a warm evening.

We popped on here for a drink and a light lunch. The choice of real ales is very good. We chose a ploughmans which unfortunately was disappointing. The bread was frozen baguette defrosted in the microwave. Expensive for what it was. We won't choose to eat here again, but will come here for a drink.

Went there last night and the pub is not a bad real ale pub at all. Plenty of choice and not too expensive. I wouldn't get too excited about the place but it's a pub. Recommended.

What you would expect from a real ale pub, a wide choice of draft beers. I had a porter which was passable. Pub was a bit quite, not much atmosphere, but the staff were friendly enough. 2 minute walk from Matlock Bath station

We are a traditional English pub and we specialise in superb real ales from all over the country. Beers from our very own Shiny Brewery are always available alongside others not usually available locally. We have been voted Matlock and Dales CAMRA Town Pub of the Year 2015. We are the sister pub of Derby City and Derbyshire CAMRA pub of the year 2014, The Furnace, Duke Street, Derby (the home of Shiny Brewing Co.) We also offer a wide range of Craft ales and traditional ciders. Food is currently served Wednesdays and Thursdays 12-3, Fridays and Saturdays 12-8 and Sunday Lunches 12-3. Our Tapas and Home Made Scotch Egg menu is available all day every day. We look forward to seeing you. Cheers!
