Maedaya, been there so many times, was my first choice for Izakaya style food and drinks. Agree with so many of the previous reviews of informed Japanese food lovers that the following is now missing from Maedaya: 1. Quality of food (cooking technique) and presentation...More

I yearn for the Maedaya of yesteryear, when service was not an afterthought and owner Toshi-san was still on the floor offering suggestions on which sake to go with the food. The iPads available for ordering are great but despite that, the wait staff were...More

We took the kids here for the novelty of the iPads. They were slow to upload after every order. It felt authentic, and a bit run down, it felt like the staff were trying to avoid contact with the customers. The sashimi was expensive for...More

Matcha Beer is a must have . Skewers are great too as they are all cooked over charcoal. Other food is good (average)

I was here with a friend who hasn't (yet) been to Japan. The door greeting, the use of technology (iPad) to order, and the overall feel was an excellent introduction to dining in Japan. The only three significant differences were (1) paying in Australian dollars,...More

We have been here several times in the last 3 years but both the quality of food and service have gone down dramatically. Sashimi was very waterly, so obviously frozen fish defrosted very badly. All the yakkitori were very salty. Service was very slow....took about...More

Looking for somewhere to meet family, ordered some skewers (sumiyaki) and decided I needed vegetables (very reasonable - like $3 extra per vege) - delicious and well priced... ended up ordering too much...

I believe that the restaurant claims to have some gluten free options and dishes. The raw sashimi is obviously gluten free, however some condiments and rice dishes contain gluten.

I don't believe it is BYO, but drinks were reasonably priced.
