We traveled to Buonconvento from Siena for the day. After walking around we stopped at Ristorante Da Mario for lunch. It is family owned and the menu was given verbally. We had wine and the daily specials. The pasta was homage and delicious. Very nice people and lovely location.

In this tiny Italian village, there are a few family run restaurants. This is a great one. No menu, just what's cooking today. And wow, good to the last bite. Homemade everything. Worth the 25 minute train trip from Siena just for the meal, and the village is a slice of Italy too.

We liked this restaurant so much, that we ate here two nights during our 6 night stay in Tuscany. Service is terrific -- food is very authentic and all homemade. Can't say enough good things about it.

I write this review with a slightly heavy heart because I fear this wonderful traditional restaurant may become overwhelmed by tourists who could detract from its essential charm. We visited three times on our recent stay in Tuscany. This is very much a locals eating place. Family-run. Variable English spoken, but it is quite possible to get by - especially... More

Da Mario was recommended by our hosts at Castello di San Fabiano and it was (again) a great recommendation. The restaurant filled quickly with guests, many of them locals. The menu was verbal (thankfully some translations available). The food was superb (we ate 3 courses - unusual for us) plus a bottle of great house wine. Service was great and... More

Definitely the best place to eat in the delightful historic centre of Buonconvento. Da Marios is a genuinely family run, traditional Italian trattoria. The family cook and serve - don't expect smart waiters or formal menus but do enjoy excellent pastas and a good choice of main courses. Good house wine is served by the bottle and you pay for... We were on our way from Siena to Perugia and stop in this small restaurant in Buonconvento. Staff very courteous and good service, but food was just average. I had higher expectations based on the TA reviews.

First gnocchi of my trip and it was excellent. I like the homemade wine that came in a bottle you could drink whatever you needed out of it and pay for what you had. Was perfect.
