Situated off the beaten track & up a very steep hill you will need to arrive by taxi. We have used this restaurant a number of times over about 15 years & each time it seems to have improved even further & it has always been excellent. Smart, comfortable, spacious, scrupulously clean restaurant & toilets. Valentines night saw a rose totally encompassed in a glass on each table, proper cotton napkins, nice cutlery & glassware. Attention to detail could not be bettered. We are 4 close friends that meet up in Puerto Rico every winter season. We chose the prawn cocktail & deep sea prawns for starters followed by fillet steaks, the duck dish & lamb. Food very professionally prepared & presented. The contents of the wine list was well chosen & fairly priced. All in all a fine dining experience was enjoyed by all. Those who may be on a budget should perhaps check La Taberna’s website before booking, however, this restaurant offers the best quality, service, atmosphere & everything you would expect if you wanted to be pampered & looked after. Well done Team, we will be visiting you again soon.

This is a hidden gem. About a 20 min walk from the main (old) shopping centre in Puerto Rico, this restaurant is a friendly family run business. Easy to book online with a prompt reply. Inside is beautiful and the detail in the decor and table settings is more than equalled in the food. Service is professional but not pushy. The menu listing is not extensive but that allows for attention to detail in the quality and presentation which are both excellent. Pricing is reasonable (large piece of fillet steak for €22) for the quality. The wine list is something else.

We had come across La Taberna through recommendations and we weren’t disappointed. The setting is lovely, up on the hill. From the moment we stepped in, the service was first class! The food was amazing, with perfect portion size. The steak was cooked to perfection (medium rare) as was the rack of lamb. The wine we had was lovely, and at a good price… and the chocolate soufflé is a must! the whole experience was fabulous and we hope to return with friends next week!

We appreciate the efforts made by this interesting restaurant to create a fine dining experience and we enjoyed a more refined environment than most in the town, we also found the staff very attentive. We decided to have the tapas menu, knowing that this was selected each night by the chef and although beautifully presented, it lacked balance. For a 15 course tapas dinner it was largely too heavily creamed and too sweet. Out of the 15 courses we tried 5 of them had influences of curried spices which then became dominant over some of the other dishes.

The last time I visited Gran Canaria I came across this restaurant by chance. When we visited this time we made the effort to seek it out again. It did not disappoint! The service and food is Devine and perfect to get away from the usual fast food in the main town of Porto Rico.

Delicious food and delightful service. We shared the châteaubriand for 2, it came with serval different sauces, vegetables and potatoes flavoured to the max! They also gave us complimentary warm homemade bread with delicious herbs and curried chicken to start! The bill only came to €85 with 2 drinks which I think is amazing for the quality of food flavours and service. Will be going back!

Visited this amazing restaurant on my Wife’s birthday with friends, 9 diners in total. The long table was positioned with plenty of space all round & perfectly “dressed”. This restaurant has a “cave type” setting & the decor is interesting & unusual. The food was excellent & well presented. The staff were very friendly, polite & very efficient. A birthday cake, complete with a candle the size of a firework, had been prepared in the kitchen & the staff all approached the table singing Happy Birthday. We have in the past dined in Michelin Star restaurants which we find sometimes to be a little reserved & impersonal, however, Elfi & Geri’s management & cheffing skills are so very good you will find a big happy smile on your face when you have to, eventually, leave. What a perfect night, thank you all.

Visited last week and were blown away by the quality of food. Pre booking is recommended but we walked in off the street and bagged a table for two. Impeccable service, quality wine, delightful food and value for money. Yes, the main courses are slightly more expensive than harbour side or the shopping mall but trust me the few hundred steps to get here are more than worth it for the experience. In our stay in the resort this was the only place where we enjoyed three courses and they even supply a small appetiser with specials of the kitchen free too. Go on treat yourselves. Great experience.

We attended this restaurant twice in our recent holiday. The first time we wanted the tapas but it has to be pre-ordered so we have the main menu which was amazing. The food was very fresh and delightful. Drinking from the silver goblets is a new experience. We came back for the tapas menu which said 15 courses for 38pp. We counted 17! and it was more like a large tasting menu. Portions where a good sized starter and the range of dishes was large. There isn't a menu you just get what the chef is planning that night. Which in hindsight it would be good to see a menu as i personally don't eat eggs and there was more egg based dishes than i realised but i was still able to eat about 10 of the dishes and hubbie just had more food. The restaurant is very pretty and with such a high standard of food is great for a date night or special occasions.

Myself and my partner were very disappointed in our meal here. To start, the waiter was not pleased we didn’t want wine, neither of us drink much and don’t drink wine, it was rather awkward. We ordered our starters and they bought some bread over to our table which we hadn’t asked for but they said we must try, we were then charged for this at the end which we thought was strange as hadn’t ordered it and weren’t given a choice whether we wanted it or not so we had assumed it was complimentary. The starter garlic prawns with mushrooms were not devained and had curry flavouring that was not described on the menu which completely overpowered the taste. We shared the chateaubriand for our mains, it came out blue though we asked for it medium rare, the meat was grisly and the side dishes were just random and not particularly pleasant (potato with some kind of carbonara sauce, a small amount of boiled veg with sliced boiled egg on top, frozen oven wedges amongst some other bits). It also had random curries flavours which did not accompany the dish well at all and again wasn’t described on the menu. The food was overpriced and we left very unsatisfied and went elsewhere for dessert. We wouldn’t return or recommend.

Be careful of the suggested drink of Cava on arrival! As it was offered to us we made the assumption it was complimentary, it’s not charged €8 a glass. Offered bread with dinner again as it was offered presumed it was complimentary, of course it wasn’t €2 per person. We did get offered a sample of their beef stew and it was lovely. Meals were ok.

So nice to return to Puerto Rico after COVID Lockdown Etc and to return to La Taberna to find they are still maintaining the high standards we have come to enjoy over the 10 years we have been coming to the resort. We had tasting menu which was faultless and included a fillet steak which was devine. High standard of service impeccable food all round great night out. A must for all travellers. Go on treat yourself.

Amazing food and beautiful restaurant built into a cave! I had prawns and mushrooms to start and the venison and the meat was cooked just as I had asked (rare). My partner decided to try the snails which was his mistake as he had never tried them before, can’t blame anybody for that but himself! If you want a sophisticated dining experience I would definitely recommend.

Wow!! How wonderful this restaurant used to be,have been visiting for over 15 years,to be treated like a criminal. The night we visited there was no WiFi so was cash only. Grumpy water told us emails were sent to everyone,Not true. We then HAD to go to cashpoint where we incurred a withdrawal fee and as we only were carrying a credit card interest. Waiter was not the least bit helpful or concerned in fact was rather enjoying situation as restaurant was obviously saving money. Have known this couple for years so for Lumpi to just disappear was absolutely a disgrace. Were we offered a drink as in every other restaurants at the end of the meal,no nothing just pay and leave. After saying that food was good but obviously not enjoyed due to the situation the restaurant created, not their fault but could have made situation ALOT better. Shame as will NEVER go back so losers all round. Unlucky Lumpi's wife was on holiday as none of this would have happened had she been present. Such a shame.

This is the second visit and once again a fantastic experience with the staff, the food and the surroundings. The food is amazing far from any restaurant we’ve been to in Gran Canaria which we have been visiting for over 20 years. The staff are so friendly and make you feel welcomed from the moment you arrive. We will be returning again in August for definite.
