Everything was just right. The food was very good and original; plates and food were warm when served, the pace of serving the different courses was pleasant, staff was friendly.

I happened to find myself in Marina di Gioiosa Tauro for a night, during a tour of the Aspromonte, and decided to try out the town’s fanciest restaurant. The service was noticeably sweet and obliging, and the family who own the restaurant are particularly so....I had a lot delicious starter of raw fish including various tartares; a king prawn made to look like an egg, with a sauce inside which explodes in your mouth, a bit like one of those Chinese soup dumplings; and an elaborate (arguably too much so) seafood based risotto with lots of sauces and emulsions. I opted for a cheap but good local wine which didn’t disconcert them and the total bill came to 90 euro plus tip. As a rule in Italy - especially southern Italy- I tend to avoid Michelin-starred or aspirational restaurants. There’s something about the very elaborateness of the cuisine which is antithetical to the true spirit of Italian cooking, and equally important all the guests who in a rustic restaurant would be talking loudly and laughing, are suddenly whispering as though in a church or modern art gallery, which again is out of character. But all of that said, if you want a gastronomic treat do come to the Gambero Russo: you won’t regret it.More

The food was only surpassed by the service. We managed to get a table for 6 at late notice. Every one of our meals was prepared with the utmost care. One of our party ordered something that was not on the menu, but had been...shown on a previous Tripadviso review, the chef duly obliged, with no questions asked. Amuse bouche was served once we had ordered, blue fish if I recall. Every meal was introduced in English, and the recommended local wine was fantastic. The desserts were unreal - an interpretation of Tiramisu - with the texture of a macaroon. I could not recommend this restaurant enough, it is one of the more expensive in the area, but the food is exceptional, service great and they have a full bar unlike many of the competing restaurants in the area.More

WE COULD HAVE BEEN IN A 5 START HOTEL - Great food and equally great service. Fresh seafood, pasta like Mama makes but presented like a Masterchef - cold Beer - nice Italian wine - all good.

This restaurant was an unexpected find, the service, the attention to detail I couldn't fault a thing. Being a vegetarian I was surprised to find not 1 item on the menu I could eat, but the chef just prepared a starter and main dish for me...and both were amazing. My husbands meal from the menu was also tasty, well presented and again amazing. I truly cannot say enough about this place except if your in the area try it.More

After 20 years visiting Marina Di Gioiosa Jonica I decided to give a try to the Gambero Rosso. For years I was discourage to go because a reputation of been expensive ( above 50 Eur per person )which is high for this region where there...are so many options for incredible food and economical. ( Checkout the Pasta DI Casa l' sugo DI Capra at Joe's Pizzeria). But the Gambero Rosso is truly a special place. Only superb seafood and service and still a deal when you compare to what you get from a high level restaurant in USA. If you go, ask for Francesco and tell him I recommend it. Dr. ColonMore
