My husband and I went to Red Stag in Fairlie in April 2017 and it was a very good experience. We found the environment calm, welcoming and warm, with a typical decoration. The Location is very close to Fairlie town, a great place to stop by on the way between Christchurch and Queenstown. The Service was quick so we didn't... More

Came here for dinner and drinks and we loved it! The building is beautiful and cozy and the owners were awesome. We also loved being greeted and entertained by the dogs! Awesome meal. Would highly recommend!

We were delighted to have discovered this restaurant just by chance. The beautiful restaurant was tastefully decorated and arranged in a charming heritage house. The hosts were very welcoming. The menu was varied and we enjoyed very much the shared bread and dip platter and the main Mini Lamb Roast and Mt Cook Salmon. The portions were very generous and... More

We dined here last week, and the ambiance and setting were pleasant and quaint. However that was the extent of the enjoyment. They didn't have half of the wines they advertise, but that was the most minor. The venison was cooked well but very tough and was doused in a berry sauce that was too sweet. The vegetables were obviously... More

Hi Kathryn J, I won't go into the details of your dining experience due to your partner leaving after placing your order and then being asked to delay your order, and I trust "Chef" who knows how to cook a perfect steak. :) As you opinion represents 2/12451 or .000160629% of the customers we have served in the past 2... Very pleasant evening in this lovely 1886 house, beautifully decorated. The meals were very good (mussels and puppies in white wine a standout) and the wine list well priced and a good selection. Friendly service, with roses from the garden. Recommended, (especially for coeliacs - almost every dish could be done gluten free).

We were staying around the corner from the Red Stag and were glad not to have to drive into town for dinner. After reading the reviews we were hoping for a lovely meal. Unfortunately that was not the case. An order of belly pork was almost entirely fat, the accompanying crackling tasted stale (obviously pre-cooked and taken out of a... More

My husband and I had an excellent meal at the Red Stag Restaurant. We both ordered the filet of beef and it was perfectly cooked. Our meal came with seasonal vegetables and a potato. Wish we could have had dessert as the dessert menu looked so inviting but we could not eat another bite. The restaurant is very relaxed and... More

WE were staying for one night up the road, on the way to Christchurch and had heard good things about this restaurant so booked a couple of days in advance. WE are so glad we did because it was great! A couple of glasses of Pinot noir from local wineries were chosen to accompany our meals. for starters, we had... More

Delicious food in a very warm and pleasant setting. Verandah setting overlooking the garden a great place to enjoy a meal. We chose local items - Mt Cook salmon and venison, both served with seasonal vegetables. Menu has a good range of choices and the accompanying wines were excellent. Recommend the shared bread and dips - an interesting variety of... More

We were well looked after in a laid back, spacious and beautiful setting. Ideal for a very good meal after a day of tramping. Definitely one of a kind. Left feeling very satisfied and happy. Will definitely return
