We called in at The Blue Vinny after reading Tripadvisor reviews and needing somewhere to eat on the way home from Weymouth. It is good when meals reach your expectations, but brilliant when they exceed them. This meal exceeded them. Being a bit boring this time around, my wife and I both went for the same thing, the lamb burger,... More

Late Sunday afternoon visit. Good food and service. Smelly wet dogs in bar area a little off putting.

We were staying in a B&B only a mile away and were recommended to use this pub just of the A35 by our hostess. A very good choice. My family and I [including two girls 9 and 11] really enjoyed our meals and starters. Only my granddaughters had room for a sweet! A pleasant family run the pub and the... More

Midweek lunch. Pleasant, clean surroundings with comfortable wooden tables and a quiet atmosphere conducive to conversation. Friendly, non-obtrusive table service. Food came in a reasonable amount of time, well presented, warm and tasty. Rabbit, roast beef and duck breast for our table and all were pleased. Portions are ample, but not excessive. Not exceptional food, but more than adequate. Prices... More

Ate there one evening of our holiday last week. Made us feel very welcome (it was the start of the evening) Our order taken quickly, and throughout service was unobtrusive but really good. All three courses we chose were excellent, attractively presented, and good portion sizes too. Definitely the best meal in our week away, and I would make the... More

Ate here twice whilst we were holidaying in the village. Delicious home cooked food - both nights started with home made soup. Mains varied and delicious - Morroccan lamb burger with trimmings especially good and desserts fantastic, especially the apple creme brullee with shortbread biscuit and zingy blackcurrant sorbet. Reasonable prices too and very friendly staff.

We have lived in Puddletown for 8 years and during that time the Vinny has definitely had its ups and downs. We recently booked for dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I have to say that, in my view, the menu is not as inspiring as it has been at times in the past. There have been occasions when I... More

Four of us visited here for a Friday lunch after 1:30pm, .i.e. after the lunch rush. I had heard good things about the food, so expectations were high. That fact that the pub served pigeon indicated it might be of some class. The pub was quiet. 3 people at the bar, a couple of other tables eating. Once seated with... More

I have eaten Sunday lunch here for the last three weeks having recently moved into the village. I can recommend the roast beef, which is served on a delicious carrot purée. There is a choice of two sizes of meal, which is really useful if you want to have two courses. I always have the cheese board and again you... More

Description
Roly and Helen Harries took over this traditional village pub in Puddletown, near Dorchester in May 2013. Keeping the very best of the old, they set about combining its warm, friendly country ambience with a cool, airy modern interior - part of a style that is reflected in their approach to the food and hospitality. Something for which this bar and restaurant is rapidly gaining a first-class reputation. The food is home cooked, and where possible the ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally from friends or trusted specialist suppliers. The wines have been chosen to complement the menu, and there is always a range of excellent guest ales on tap.Together with Head Chef Danny Durose and his team, they've created a menu that reflects their personal tastes, with a truly international approach - a style that owes as much to the hot islands of the Mediterranean as it does to the classic and everyday dishes of Britain and mainland Europe. Roly and Helen with Children Thomas and Benjamin are passionate about producing the very best food at accessible prices, as well as extending a warm and friendly welcome to locals and visitors alike.
