The focaccia was incredible- fresh baked, chewy yet tender. You can point to what you want and order as much as you want. The energetic baker used 10 foot poles to load the baked goods into a wood-burning huge oven. What a great find!

Visited this ancient bakery 14th century bakery because we heard focaccia was delicious. It was but ......there was a whole lot more! We had a local "sampler" of cheese and salumi along wuth bruschetta, foccacia and white beans. Absolutely delicious!!

The oldest bakery in town. Good pizza, focaccia and bread. Nice atmosphere. Watch out not to trip over the stick they use to put the bread in the oven.

Stopped by to try the bread at this ancient bakery 14th century bakery. The focaccia was delicious, some of the best I have tasted. The wine accompaniment was less so, but it was the bread that mattered. When here make sure you have a look at the wood fired oven just inside and the baker at work.

Hidden remote place in the heart of Altamura's old town which serves the best bread in town. Simply tasty, fresh and real. Great with kids.

We have been to this lovely small restaurant/bakery in the center of beautiful Altamura and enjoyed the cold white wine with the most delicious pizza like bread made with tomato, olive oil, green olive and some green herbs. We also tried the bread with zuccini, it was also delicious. We bought the local Altamura bread and took it with us... More

We knew en route to Matera we had to stop in Altamura for what is claimed to be the best bread in Italy (confession--I've had better bread in Italy--in fact I preferred the bread I had at several places in Puglia even more; that said, this is some excellent bread. However even better than the bread was the pizza or... More

I had read about the famous Altamura bread before our 3 week voyage to Italy. I was in Puglia paying homage to my father--he was born in Molfetta. While in the area I took my wife and 11 year old son to Altamura in search of Antico Forno, a bread bakery in continuous operation from 1423 til today. We parked... More
