I spent a week in Sovana and ate there almost every day because there was so much to eat, even as some one who does not eat gluten.

After a long walk and a shower we went here for dinner. The staff were friendly and the food was local rustic and tasty. A lovely log fire and good house wine completed the evening. We were given some lemonchello to go with our coffees afterwards. As this was so good we went there the following evening as well.

Our misfortune to have been booked for meal during our walking holiday here was not something we want others to suffer. The vendor was simply disinterested interested in our party as a whole. The food was less than average, my grilled cod ( tail end butterfly opened with the bones) arrived blacked and was served by the manager, who did... More

This restaurant should have been great. The location with three thousand years of history all around is amazing. This building looked atmospheric and we had high hopes after checking into the very indifferent hotel they are associated with. It wasn't to be - the restaurant was cold - that refers to both temperature and staff. The food was totally unacceptable... More

Food was good and it was served by a very friendly waitress. There was an English version of the menu so ask if you need one. We have found with many meals in Italy that we can share the pasta dish and then order an entree each. We always get the house wine at restaurants which is excellent and the... More

We had never heard of Sovana let alone this restaurant/tavern. It was booked by the agent as part of a walking holiday and we stayed here for two nights. How fortunate we were. The service was outstanding - the owner did everything he could to make us feel welcome including inviting us to have dinner on his private terrace on... More

I would just like to say that my pasta dish was great but everything else was a let down. 1. They delivered the wrong dish, but to make it easier my brother in law accepted it. 2. The vegetable dish was really small and drenched in oil. 3. We had to request bread for the table which is automatically charged... More

We ate here several nights in a group--they just aren't equipped to deal with 18 of us together. One night 3 of us went and the service and food was outstanding--the steak was terrific!

It is somewhat dark inside with minimum lighting. It was also quite chilly, in fact all the other clients were well wrapped up too. The pasta dishes were very good, but hardly abundant. The same for the meat dishes and the vegetables. Again all very tasty but extremely small portions, served on huge plates. The wine was excellent, and thank... More

Taverna Etrusca sits in the corner of the splendid Preotorio Piazza, in the enchanting medieval town of Sovana, part of the Maremma Collinare. The old thirteenth century Palazzo del Pretorio that houses Taverna Etrusca was carefully renovated so that the restaurant continues to reflect all the beauty and authenticity of the original structure. Outside the coats of arms of the commissioners who ruled Sovana between 1484 and 1686 remain as symbols of the building’s illustrious past. Inside the restaurant’s atmosphere is intimate and refined, while still maintaining the strong architectural elements of the 13th century through it’s exposed beams and terracotta floors. Just off the main dining room is a small niche with one, very romantic table, allowing guests to dine in ultimate intimacy. During Spring and Summer, diners can enjoy the beautiful Tuscan weather on the alfresco terrace, where everything tastes better.
