Decor is in need of a little TLC but the staff were excellent and the roast was the best I’d had in many years. Good portions too.

Arrived with family, ordered drinks and looked at the menu. Waitress obviously overheard us discussing what we wanted as she came over & told us that they had no Yorkshire pudding wraps. Placed our orders and then 10 mins later the waitress came over to...check whether my daughter wanted plain or cheesy garlic bread. 25 mins after we placed our orders we saw the chef at the Carvery talking to our waitress & gesturing at our table. We turned to look at him when he started shouting at us from behind the counter saying we haven’t got any pork. We don’t do pork on a Saturday or Sunday. We heard the waitress say she would go and tell them at the till. 5 mins later we had to call her over & ask whether we had to change our orders as she hadn’t come to find out what we wanted instead. Then another 10 mins passed & the waitress came over to tell us that they hadn’t received their delivery of white rolls. We said ciabattas were fine. They then brought my sons pig in blanket sandwich out. It was pretty much black & bone dry. Stuffed in a white roll with a heap of cold roast potatoes on the side. Time passed & there was no sign of the rest of the meals. I went to enquire after an hour where the rest of our food was & was told by a manager that she would go & see what was happening. She told me that it does take longer to make a sandwich! I said it’s been nearly an hour & the meat is on the Carvery as are the roast potatoes so they only needed to pop it in a bit of ciabatta. Wasn’t even busy. Food arrived a bit of meat in a white roll (not a ciabatta) with a couple of roast potatoes on the side. Tasted fine but really wasn’t worth all the palaver. We had all planned on having desserts but we were going to an event in the area & because of how long it took to bring our food, we didn’t have time. So you lost our money there. There was a half hearted apology from the manager who muttered sorry for the wait as she walked past. We were charged in full. Won’t return & certainly wouldn’t recommend. Very poor.More

Wow breakfasts have gone down hill at Toby. A fruit juice doubles the cost of the breakfast and the tables are sticky. All of them.

Two Brummies visiting Barry for the Gavin and Stacey tour visited Toby for dinner on Saturday 18th Sept. Sophie made us feel so unbelievably welcome. Such a lovely friendly young lady who put us both at ease. As visiting new places is daunting especially when...you are not a local. Even the gestures of ice with our wine as it was a really hot evening went down a storm with us, as no one ever normally makes the effort to think of such things. Our service was absolutely superb, nothing was too much trouble. Sophie stood out the most to us, however all staff were super friendly which leads us to glowing reviews such as this. As it’s not always just about the food, which was also really good & excellent value. We will return & deffo recommend!More

Staff lovely, food normal Toby fair, but needs a major refurb. They have obviously painted in certain areas, notably some woodwork and spindles. However paint marks everywhere and it just makes the rest look worse, as you have a stark white against very faded yellowing...paint. I could go on. Also I think they had left over stock from a motorway services when the toilets were fitted. It didn’t feel like I was in a restaurant toilet. Toby is hardly fine dining but you do expect nicer surroundings.More

Such kind welcoming staff, relaxed warming atmosphere. I was dissapointed by what was on offer though. I went with my family at 2:30 on a Saturday and the only veg on offer were roasties, peas, carrots and a tiny amount of dried cabbage. The veg...being my favourite part was very disappointing. Overall average experience wont rush to go back.More

Last minute decision to go for lunch here on a Tuesday lunchtime. They were very busy so were offered a table in the bar area, which was very acceptable, lots of space around it. The Carvery lunch was very good lots of options and choices...of vegetables. We all opted for the beef which was cooked to perfection and the vegetables were all lovely. There was also a choice of Roast Potatoes, one of which were cooked in beef dripping, and were very tasty. The gravy was delicious. For dessert I had Eton Mess which was lovely, although I would have liked more merengue. My husband had fruit crumble which he enjoyed very much. All the staff were friendly and welcoming. We will definitely visit again soon.More

We decided to eat here after staying at the travel lodge next door, we were advised to book as were told it gets very busy in the evenings, we were shown to our table stuck right up in the corner, next to a very large...pile of dumped smelly chair cushions, my husband put his phone on the table and it actually stuck to it where the table hadn’t been cleaned... we proceeded to get our carvery which seemed a mile away through the restaurant battling to get past other people with our full plates,,,apart from that the food was so nice we decided to go back for breakfast the next morning, this was a totally different experience we were shown to a lovely table in the main restaurant this time right next to the breakfast bar, which was a totally different experience from the night before!! Once again the food was lovely!!! So my advice is avoid in the evenings if you want a nice relaxed and quiet evening meal, but highly recommend for breakfast!!!More
