We ate here by chance and it was one of the best Tuscan lunches we have had. Luciano was very friendly and spoke excellent English having worked in London so was able to advise on all the 'specials' for that day. The choices we made were extremely tasty ending with home made Christmas pudding.

By lucky chance we found this gem of a restaurant, just outside the touristy part of S.Quirico. Excellent home cooked Tuscan food, professional and friendly staff who were on hand to guide us in our choice of food and wine, and to cap it all we found real, home-made Christmas Pudding to finish off our meal - what a delicious... Very good location, easy parking. Welcoming owner and staff. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Especially good were the Tuscan beans and starter course as well as the mains. We recommend warmly

We had a short window of time to eat lunch and get back for our appointment at the La Foce gardens. San Querico was close by and this was the first restaurant we found on the outskirts of town. There seemed to be nobody there and we were not sure if it was the right choice. Parking seemed a bit... More

After being very disappointed from the welcome we received at top rated El Ciacco, we decided to skip that place and try this more low key restaurant just outside of the historic centre. We were greeted with a smile by the owner, which was a welcoming difference from El Ciacco. The food was delicious, the service very pleasant, and the... More

Average setting on edge of approx 300metres downhill from the main town. Clean pleasant outside dining. Efficient welcoming staff. Cheese selection nicely presented and at last a manager who volunteered without prompting to tell us about the cheeses! Pici amatriciana, in support of the earthquake victims was excellent, as was the open label wine. Would certainly return Simon Hanley +447828417512

After greeting us outside the front door and personally introducing himself, Luciano gave us a typically warm Roman welcome at this Tuscan locanda, just outside the walls of San Quirico. He is from the Castelli Romani and knows how to make his guests feel at home. We were a family group of 11 and he had the table set, including... More

We found this restaurant only on our last day unfortunately. The food is excellent home cooked fare using only fresh locally grown ingredients and a good choice of local wines. The service was friendly and the host, who spoke English, made us very welcome explaining to us each dish on the menu. Highly recommended and good value for money.

The restaurant is on a busy road but the food is worth a little bit of noise. There is an outdoor patio surrounded by flower pots and all the tables have big umbrellas. There's not much English spoken there but the menu is in English as well as Italian so ordering is not a problem. The wild boar is fabulous and... More

Description
The Fonte alla Vena Inn is a warm and welcoming restaurant in an ancient building of historical importance which has recently been renovated. It is on the Cassia Road, close to the village of San Quirico d'Orcia close to Montalcino , Motepulciano and only 4 km from Bagno Vignoni well known for its hot springs The restaurant used to be an inn where " knights" would stop to eat, drink, sleep and let their horses drink. The building in front of the inn was a furnace where the famous Chigean pottery was baked. This has lent its name to the restaurant. The restaurant is run by owner Luciano who give the guests a warm and friendly welcome. At the end of the meal, guests are invited to leave their comments and suggestions in the guest book, which will be used to continually improve the quality of the restaurant.
