They serve great coffee and food here. Lots of interesting "things" to look at! It is comfortably decorated with cosy seating and plenty of reading matter should this be needed. A great stop off should you be in this area.

I love this place! Very stylish with multiple styles of furniture's from different era's. A nice atmosphere with a cool backdrop of music. Great coffee in this old building. I must visit for a coffee!

Went the the Refinery for breakfast as the history of the place interested us. Sadly our breakfast of two poached eggs, bacon and toast, was very ordinary and the toast was so tough we couldn't even cut it with a knife. Wish I had just ordered a savoury muffin which did look good. Wouldn't have breakfast there again.

So sorry to hear that Ngaio! It's always disappointing to me when a customer is not happy so I apologise if your breakfast was not to your liking. I just wish we could have done something at the time to rectify this; feedback is always appreciated and if you had told me or staff member that there was a problem... More

My sister told me about this place and you won't see it unless someone tells you about it so read my review because it is definitely worth turning off the main road for lunch, coffee or just a cake. The food is amazing with healthy salads as well as a gorgeous Cornish pasty made with the lightest pastry I've had... More

Thanks Nadia. So glad you enjoyed it! I'm afraid we can't agree on the Osmonds and I nearly got fired for almost taking that off the turntable!! More

Just driving back to Auckland through Paeroa, we decided to go around the back streets in Hope of finding something different to eat at. And we did, The Refinery, super food, amazing old comfortable ambience, chill music and lovely people. Definitely worth a visit.

We found The Refinery by accident. So happy we did. The food was wonderful. Good strong coffees too. Lovely vibe. We enjoyed the savoury mince on toast so much, we took a detour on our way back from holiday to get it again.

Wow. Just wow. Somehow found this place and thank goodness we did. Felt like being in a quaint village in the south of France. We will never drive through Paeroa again without coming here! Coffee/Food/Service all exceptional. Tricky to find at first but well with the hunt...And the architecture! A must visit...

This is a cool eating place to check out. Initially I was intending to sit outside but when entering the building decided to sit on the sofa and check out all the interesting things inside. The coffee was good and the food also.
