We were staying at the Premier Inn which is local to this pub. We were extremely impressed with the pub - the food was excellent (and really good value) and the staff couldn't be more helpful and welcoming. Our first meals out following lockdown and we enjoyed every mouthful!

We booked a table in advance as we were staying at the nearby Premier Inn, our first mini break since lockdown. What an amazing find The Red Lion was. We received a very warm welcome upon arrival, and was politely asked to use the available hand sanitizer before being shown to our table. The downstairs restaurant was arranged perfectly to adhere to social distancing measures, but this didn't detract from the fabulous setting. We were seated at a table for 4 (there were 2 of us), and were served our food and drinks from the far end of the table, so even when being served, social distancing was in place. We ordered the pate (my all time favourite), and my partner ordered pork belly bites, both which were extremely tasty. For our main, I ordered the chicken with pancetta, and my partner ordered BBQ short ribs, both of which were presented beautifully, and were delicious. The beef ribs were a "belly buster", I thought it was a sharing platter when it was served! All in all, we were truly impressed with the food, service, and appreciated the things in place which are necessary in these strange times. This is a must to visit if you can, we felt completely safe and at ease, and left not having to eat for a week.

Visited this place for our wedding anniversary last night and once again the food and service was excellent. Our waitress Ellie was attentive, polite and nothing was too much trouble. The owners, Jackie and Pete, went out of their way to make our evening special. We have recommended the Red Lion to several friends, none of which have been disappointed. If you are in the area make sure you pop in and sample what they have to offer.

I visited the pub with my husband who is paraplegic and a good friend who had recently lost his wife. When I called to book the lovely lady who took my booking asked if we would mind sitting in the bar area, as they had a group booking in the restaurant.
On arrival we were greeted by the same lovely lady and had a fabulous table, great food, Helen our waitress was fantastic as always.
We spent just short of £200.
We booked for Valentine’s Day dinner, charmingly sold to us by Helen.
However when I returned with a friend the next day for lunch, I asked if I could change the booking to 4 people as my friend wanted to come too.
The Manager Paul? came over, and I asked if we could have the same table in the bar for Valentines night, he responded “we’re putting the Valentines lot, upstairs “ I replied that we wouldn’t be going upstairs as my husband is in a wheelchair, I asked again if we could have the table in the bar because all the restaurant tables have a bar across the bottom, so he wouldn’t be able to get his wheelchair under. His response was “No, I want my regular drinkers in the bar”
The Manager then responded and pointed to a group of people at another table and said “well they’re in wheelchairs “ and walked off. Having cared for my husband for many years, I know what is possible and not for a wheelchair user. I went over to the table and asked the two ladies, if they were able to get their wheelchairs under comfortably.
They responded, that they have to take the footrests off, and are still unable to get close to the table and usually pick their plates up, or just have a sandwich.
I found the Manager, who is the landlord also and advised him. Couldn’t have cared less! I said well I suppose I’ll have to cancel the booking then.
His only response was to ask for my name and cancel, no apology, no compromise nothing.
Having been to the pub 3 times in a month and spent just short of £400 total, I would class myself as a reasonable “local” .
This place is lovely ALL staff with the exception of the Landlord, amazing, as is the food. It is such a shame that he’s never bothered, nor interested to see if his disabled guests are sitted at a disabled friendly table, and comfortable.
My friend was aghast, and could not believe the level of discrimination, it’s something I encounter all over the UK, sad further that it’s on my own doorstep.
Keep up the great work, waiting staff and kitchen you do a fantastic job

Thank you for taking the time to review our restaurant albeit that your review varies slightly from what actually occurred. I did speak to you in the restaurant regarding the booking you had already made for Valentines evening as you wished to increase the booking to a table of 4. I explained we would be serving our Valentines menu in our restaurant and upstairs room and not in the bar area as it wouldn’t be suitable for Valentines night. I did not however refer to our bookings as ‘ the Valentines lot’. But of course this fits your narrative that I was rude which couldn’t be further from the truth. I fully appreciate that your husband couldn’t go upstairs but you dismissed all of our restaurant tables saying none of them were suitable even though you were previously booked in there. There were 2 tables at the time being used by wheelchair users which I did point out to you. Of course I didn’t think you would go and interrupt their lunch to enquire about the suitability of the tables. There was no conversation with myself regarding removing footrests and the only further conversation we had was when you told me you wished to cancel . We have been in this business for 6 years now and have built up a loyal following of customers through excellent customer service and going out of the way to accommodate peoples needs. But of course for this to work requires a level of flexibility on both sides. We have never discriminated against anybody regardless of their ability or how much they spend. But I’m sure you wouldn’t be rude enough to mention how much you spent….

We visited tonight as a family of four. When we arrived we were greeted by a very pleasant waitress that took us to our table, she explained the procedure to us as this is the first time visiting for food since lockdown. I have to honestly say we felt safe and at ease at all times throughout our visit. Everything is put onto a neighbouring vacant table next to you so waitresses have no contact and refrain from leaning over you ect personally I think this is fantastic as it keeping both customers and staff safe at all times. We will definitely be returning.
The food was fantastic aswell, all in all a pleasant visit and can’t wait to return again soon.

Very impressed with the choice on the Sunday menu and well priced 2 or 3 course options.
I thoroughly enjoyed the Prawn cocktail and the Veggies Wellington was very tasty. My husband was very pleased with his choice of garlic mushrooms as a starter and salmon for his main. The four of us felt the plate size for the very nice choice of accompanying veggies was a little on the small size for us to share.
I also felt the size of our table did not allow for the requisite social distancing and we were very pleased no one was shown to the two seater table next to our table as that was extremely close!

Had lunch with our walking group today. Some time since we were last here and the new owner(s) have done a brilliant job before its re-opening. I think there were about 20+ in our group today which is often a problem for pubs trying to serve meals more or less simultaneously. This was not a problem for the Red Lion which managed to get all of our meals out within a matter of minutes. I had the steak pie with chips. Cannot recall ever eating a pub pie of this quality. I also have never tasted (proper) chips as good as those which accompanied it. We had a slight problem with the bill but this was a perfectly innocent error quickly corrected.
Staff very friendly, helpful and efficient. The Red Lion is about 20 miles from our home so might not get there too often but will definitely re-visit.

Being fed up with local pubs being transformed into vastly overpriced gastro venues with pretentious menus, my friend and I decided on the Red Lion instead of other options nearby which I will not name. We had a two course meal, sensibly priced, nicely presented and cooked well. This place has got it right: decent, affordable food. The staff are absolutely charming and welcoming and the setting is lovely. They deserve to do well because they seem to know their client base. We were impressed.

My Partner and I visited the Red Lion at Myddle on a sunny Saturday Lunchtime in October. We hadn't booked a table, but this was not a problem, we were shown to a table in the restaurant by a member of the very attentive staff and our drinks order was taken. Having the Peroni Glasses in the fridge was a great touch, made for an excellent pint. We decided on sharing the Grazing Board, which upon arrival was enormous, including Belly Pork Bites and Sliced Sausage in a Soy and Ginger Glaze, 2 huge Pork Ribs in a BBQ Sauce, Sliced smoky Chicken Fillet, a mountain of very nice fries, sweetcorn, and 3 dips, one of which was a Tangy Curry Sauce. We just about managed to finish everything between us, only after a quite heated debate about who got the last piece of the divine Sausage! The food was excellent, the service was excellent, the ambiance was excellent. As we left the restaurant was almost full, testament to an all round excellent experience being provided. Our total bill was less than £40, which we thought was perfectly reasonable.

Absolutely appalled. As a regular diner here I have no complaints about the quality of the food although the service leaves something to be desired. On my visit this evening I pointed out the offer of 2 main courses being £9.00 each. I was refused this
Offer with the pathetic excuse that it wasn’t their fault and would I like to have. Phone number to complain to. I asked for the manager and a waitress came to see me even though I heard the bar tender on the phone to the manager. I have been a restaurateur all my working life and still own two establishments at this time I shall not return in the future and I shall suggest to my regular clientele not to bother

I have been to the Red lion pre lockdown and the food was lovely, this weekend I was visiting the area again and am happy to report the food is as wonderful as two years ago. I am a vegetarian and a fussy eater so often struggle to find food that I enjoy but having eaten at the Red lion I can honestly say the meal was beautiful.
We went for Sunday lunch which I love but often am unable to enjoy due to limited choices however, the owner Jacqui went out of her way to ensure I had what I wanted and as I chose not to have the veggie option she ensured there were extra vegetables. The pubs interior was very warm and homely with a modern twist and had a lovely welcoming feel, the staff were helpful, friendly and chatty.
We had such a lovely experience that we have been back again today for lunch and needles to say we were not disappointed. The owner Peter made us welcome and even found time to come to our table and check all was well. I can’t wait to return again soon.
I can recommend the Red lion for great company, great food and competitive prices but don’t take my word for it go and try for yourself.

Lovely interior, friendly staff, excellent food. We chose off the early evening menu 2 courses for £13, both were well presented & very tasty, finished with the sticky toffee pudding which was divine. Well worth a visit.

We booked in advance and on arrival we’re taken to our table. Lovely warm atmosphere, great service (a mention for Helen who served us and provided a first class service). Food was excellent. All three men had steak and were all cooked perfectly. I had a delicious steak and ale pie. Would highly recommend… the lemon bakewell, was absolutely delicious and melted in the mouth. So, the place was excellent, great customer service,we never felt rushed and lingered fir sometime after the meal and chatted. A lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon and will definitely go back.

We came here after we couldn’t get into another local pub while on holiday. Well it turned out to be a great problem to have because the food here was really lovely. The staff were accommodating to my children’s fussiness of only eating broccoli as a side and the food was very tasty and to everyone’s liking.
The local community are very lucky to have this as their local.
