We went for lunch at the Anchor Inn as it was local and have heard good reviews. We decided to sit in the restaurant which was quite empty but soon started to fill up after we arrived. There was a good choice on the menu and the prices were reasonable. The meal was enjoyable and the portions were good. The... More

Visited yesterday for lunch 5 of us, service was excellent, girl on the bar super efficient & friendly, drinks prices reasonable as was the meal cost. Sat in the restaurant at the rear as the bar was very busy, girl there very quick and efficient also, food good value and decent size meals one slight gripe was the soup not... More

I have been visiting The Anchor since 2000 and this was my first visit (due to working abroad) for a long time. This place HAS NOT changed in all that time and please don't change it!!! My colleague and myself were staying at The Anchor and meeting up with my brother and his girlfriend who lived nearby. We had the... More

A lovely cross country walk from Thornbury ended in this delightful pub. Though Thursday, it was obviously a hit with the locals. The open fire invited us in and the food ( my crayfish salad) was freshly prepared and of generous proportions. I'd recommend this highly.

We were looking for a place to have Sunday lunch at the end of a long walk. The pub looked the ideal place - a cosy rustic old country pub serving wholesome food. However we were disappointed. We initially went into the main bar, but felt like we had walked into a bar in the wild west. Children under 12... More

My wife and I stopped in towards the end of a 12 mile walk along the Severn Way. The pub is ideally situated for that. It was a chilly day but the welcome was warm, and the food was tasty. I had the beef ploughmans, my wife had the Caesar salad. they were both excellent. I had plenty of delicious... More

I have visited The Anchor a few times, most recently as apart of a party of 4. The service was, as ever, excellent and the meals very tasty with good portions (pies, curry and burger being the orders of the day!!) We will be back again...................

Went for a Family 80th Birthday party. Nice & warm inside even though bitter outside. Pleasant & attentive staff. Drinks in Bar until table was ready. Waitress was good, time to read menu & have a chat. Food was Sunday lunch, traditional pub grub & some specials. Good choice for a Sunday. Food was fine and portions size OK. Would... More

Came across this lovely Inn online while frantically trying to find a room on Wales v England weekend. At first thought it may be a bit of a drive out of Cardiff but it only took 30 minutes to get to and what a great place once we arrived. Only 3 rooms at The Anchor but they are top quality,... More

Once again an innovative menu, salmon, venison, haggis Bon bons , clever creation. Great selection of whisky tasters and a traditional piper. Once again enjoyed the stay in well appointed room. Would be perfect location for walkers, house hunters etc.

Description
The dining room at the Anchor is light and bright with double doors leading out onto the beautiful garden. With elegant country style decor and seating 40, it is extremely popular, so it is always a good idea to ring before you come or call and make a reservation. On Sundays we always offer at least two different roast meat dishes at lunch time. You can dine informally in the garden - in the summer, lounge and public bar where the menu is the same as in the dining room. Although children are most welcome in the dining room and can have great fun playing in the garden, we do like to keep the pub side for adults only.
