How is it that this little hill top town in Shropshire has so many great places to eat ? We've already raved about the Ganges Indian restaurant, and this time we met family for a meal at the Castle. Having read some of the T/A reviews we were expecting something special, and we were certainly not disappointed. A warm and... More

I found the castle hotel quite dated. Staff were friendly and helpful. We originally were seated in a small bar area which became very noisy with a larg party so made it difficult to have a conversation, we asked to be moved and was promptly. The menu was unusual and quite expensive with a couple of traditional meals. I chose... More

Called in for a quick mid week lunch. All the staff were very friendly. Very decent lunch menu with some imaginative vegetarian options - the hallumi and sun dried tomato sandwich was exceptionally good. Will certainly visit this lovely old pub next time we are in the area.

We had a two-night stay at the Castle earlier this week. As the owners of a very anxious rescue dog, it's so refreshing to find a good hotel which caters for, and openly welcomes, dogs with their owners. To have Bobby able to stay with us in our room as well as accompany us for meals is so special and... More

We stopped for a quick lunch in the bar. Food was fine, lovely thick chunky chips which were very hot! Tapas and salad selection very acceptable Bar is very dog friendly which may be a problem if you're not!

We visit Bishops Castle regularly and have eaten lunch and evening meals at the Castle. Always good quality meals, Sunday lunch is a particular treat. Dog friendly in the bar and on the garden terrace. On a fine day the garden is a lovely venue to meet friends and enjoy a meal

We had a Sunday lunch here. There was excellent choice, and although busy, service was excellent. My husband was pleased with the choice of real ales. Our dog was made very welcome. The hotel has a lovely garden which has fabulous views. Well worth a visit

We visited this hotel for food to start off our holiday, and I don't think we could have picked a better place to eat! We booked and arrived with 3 dogs, who all were extremely welcome and were fussed a lot by the staff, who were also very friendly to us! We sat in the bar area, where the dogs... More

Was looking forward to this meal and to visit this wonderful property. I felt that the staff were friendly and efficient and I loved the property , quirkier than I expected and the gardens lovely however. I would agree with one of the earlier reviewer is that apart from the pate I had, the food seemed to be from jars... More

Description
If you want to eat out in Bishops Castle look no further - Shropshire has a long history of culinary excellence. Shrewsbury has a plethora of good restaurants, and Ludlow is just down the road, which for a time boasted more Michelin starred restaurants than London itself! We don‘t do Michelin at The Castle, but we certainly use many of the same local suppliers. We’re spoilt for them actually. What we aim to produce is modern, good pub food that is healthy, hearty, flavoursome and fresh. And great value of course. And you’ve a wide choice of places to eat at The Castle. Each of the three bars has its own individual character, some with open fires, some with terraces out into the garden. Or try our oak panelled restaurant, believed to feature in the Mary Webb novel “The House in Dormer Forest”. And when the weather is warm, and remember it’s always sunny in Shropshire, our beautiful south facing gardens with fantastic terrace and raised fish ponds provide the perfect spot for a light repast and a cooling beverage.
