Thankyou massively Tahira. We all aboustley loved the scrummy food you cooked up. Full of flavour and spice!!! I Loved your homemaid gooseberries jam! That tasted aboustley beautiful!! Along side your chicken masala. A large platefull that just hit the spot. Our colourful group of friends all sat at the delightfully layed tables. While we ate we had a enjoyable conversation with the beautiful tahira. Best dinner chat I have ever personally had at the table. Anyone thats walking past should most definitely enter this fragrant filled HOME Cafe.. as she said 'Make your self home' it certainly felt like it. It was a pleasure. Much love and hopes for your future. Liberty and the gang ❣️

What a delightful lunch we had at the Chai House this week. The food was delicious, prepared in the traditional Indian way so it’s not greasy. But, what made is so special was not just the food but the sense of community there. The owner (Tara) is an amazing cook but also a very funny, engaging and entertaining host. She is happy to let people eat quietly if that’s what they would like to do but we thoroughly enjoyed the sense of community as we chatted to three people (a father/daughter and an older gentleman who frequents Chai House very regularly) on the other table. If you do go, ask Tara about her alter egos - she is bright and very talented ( not to mention her artwork on the walls). We’ll definitely be going back!

On a holiday visit I found this delightful Indian cafe. I had Goan vegetable curry with rice, a lamb samosa and a slice each of lime and coconut, and cardamom cake (not all for me..). All homemade and freshly cooked. I've eaten and cooked Indian food for decades but haven't tasted better homecooked Indian food and the service is very friendly. When you are in Bishops Castle I highly recommend The Chai Shop!

This cafe is small, but serves food to take away or eat hot. It is all freshly cooked in the open kitchen. For starters we ate Vegetable Bhargies, straight from the stove, served with homemade lime pickle. For our main course it was a Goan vegetable curry and a Chicken Masala. Everything was tasty a little spicy but not too hot. We completed our feast with a home made lime and coconut cake. Highly recommend.

This restaurant is a completely different experience , the host is very friendly and loves sharing her experiences with customers who all seem to know her. We had a mixed vegetarian plate each , every curry was different and it was impossible to choose a favourite. I loved it there

This is a small daytime restaurant with only a few tables. The curries are fresh and delicious. We like it so much that in the evening we eat early, 5pm, and then move on to a pub for a drink. It is run by a lady, mainly on her own, so don't expect fast food. Very convivial. We usually meet extremely interesting people who are also looking for a slow food experience. The cake is very tasty too.

Tahira is such an amazing host not to mention a brilliant chef😍!! Made our trip with her delicious, authentic food seasoned with entertaining anecdotes. We were lucky to have a wonderful mix of guests both times we visited, we ordered mutton rogan, chicken curry, bhagis and cardamom cake ( or gulab jamun cake! ) and ofcourse the Chai!! All worth a try and worth going back to the next day as well. What an amazing little treasure !! 🤩

So lucky Tara is so close. Booked a special birthday meal for 6 & picked it up fresh & piping hot with huge home made samosas & bages. We had 3 curry's that I chose~mutton, chicken & vegetable with aubergines, rice & chutney & raita thrown in. Tara does offer banquets which she lays out for you & washes up at your home but we managed ourselves! The cafe itself is cosy & displays all her beautiful art work. What a talented woman. 👏 🥘🍲

Quirky experience with a garrulous owner and an intimate and basic decor. We really enjoyed our afternoon pot of tea with a lovely fresh lime and coconut cake, delivered with full on chat and gossipy opinion. We picked up a takeaway to warm up in the van. It tasted homemade and authentic, we particularly enjoyed the samosas. We returned the next day for a Goan veggy curry and some bhajjis. It’s certainly not smart or top end cuisine but kind of unique and we liked it.

What a wonderful lunch! Tara was an amazing host, fulfilling takeaway and in house orders by herself. That didn’t put her off being sociable. She can multi task! Her ethos is quality Indian food but healthy and nutritious. She could even make Boris Johnson feel welcome! I would spit in his food but she’s a professional always looking after her clientele. The food was so honest ad delicious 😋

We discovered this gem from looking in TA and were so delighted to find it had reopened that day after a months closure. The atmosphere is cosy and eclectic and we spent a couple of un rushed hours watching Tara cook her beautiful food and eating the dishes she produced. Quite a different experience with delicious food and stimulating chat

Lovely home cooked food in an intimate, friendly atmosphere. It’s great to be able to chat with Tara as she prepares the food. We were introduced to the folks on the other table and conversation included the whole room.

Popped in for a cuppa and two samosas and a slice of coffee and walnut cake later we felt right at home. Had been meaning to try as had read really good reviews and certainly didn't disappoint! All the food is homemade and Tara uses only locally sourced ingredients. Food was delicious, Tara was a delight and her paintings are pretty good too. We will definitely be back!

Excellent authentic north Indian food from Tara was very friendly & welcoming. We felt like we were guests in her home & were old friends. If you like Indian food hot you need to request it to be extra spiced up as it will probably be English hot rather then Indian hot 🔥

My host Helen ordered a big Indian dinner from Tahira for our family gathering in Bishop's Castle. It was absolutely wonderful! Incredible curry, rice, samosas and pakora - and my favourite - naan - was done to perfection. Many thanks!
