We chose the Charles Cotton Hotel from the Travelzoo website as it is central to the area in which we had planned walks. It is a very pleasant hotel with a good bar and restaurant and a nice olde wordly feel to it. We paid extra to upgrade to a suite. All the rooms were very nice but the suite... More

Four of us had a a lunchrtime sandwich and the tapas of beers. Good value, nice surroundings and friendly staff. Definitely would go back and have a proper meal if we were nearby.

We ate here one evening whilst staying in Hartington village and ordered the fish and chips. It was rather disappointing in terms of taste - bland, texture - wet, size - very thin so no real proper taste of fish. small wire basket or chips - these were nice, just could have done with a few more. served with a... We were staying in the YHA up the hill and wanted somewhere nice to have dinner. The Devonshire Arms was fully booked so we went here. The lady behind the bar was lovely, really chatty and helpful and then booked us a table. She led us through to the restaurant which was a little dark! The guys in the restaurant... More

Just had a two night stay here which was very pleasant. The staff were cheerful and attentive especially when we had a meal in the restaurant which was first class. The breakfast was also of a high quality. Lots of choice in the bar for real ale lovers and plenty of different gins including a slice of cucumber if required.

We've just stayed at the hotel on a offer which we felt we would like to at least eat a dinner at their restaurant even though it was quite pricey, we felt it would be worth it. We skipped the starter, ordered a bottle of wine and opted for a £15 main meal each. All going to plan, then from... More

Despite the disappointment of the hotel, the restaurant was excellent! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent in both the restaurant and the bar. After the mains, I would recommend the sharing cheeseboard as it was loaded with tasty cheese from the local shop!

Two night, mid week stay just prior to the manic Easter rush. Food, ambience and friendliness of staff excellent. Bedroom could do with a little TLC and, when dining in the Bistro, the 'lads' should stop chatting to each other at the end of the bar and pay more attention to their customers. Otherwise a great break.

We went here recently whilst staying in the area. We received a very warm welcome from the waitress who told us we could choose to,sit anywhere. There were some settees, but as we were eating we chose a table in the restaurant. It is all very nicely decorated, and warm, as there was an open fire burning. Plenty of light... More

I hate to write a bad review about anywhere but when your entire party leaves a restaurant feeling wound up and generally angry, you know there's something worth complaining about. We went for dinner - a large party of 4 adults and 4 children (including a baby). Booked in early as children needed to be in bed as early as... More
