Bossost is a pretty little town in the Val d'Aran just over the Spanish border from SW France. The Garonne runs through the centre of town and right beside the river is the Portalet. This place has the warm ambience of a family-run restaurant plus food which is worth at least two Michelin stars and immaculate service. The menu is... More

This is a popular restaurant. We had lunch here for the first time recently. Four course or three course choice with several tasty "extras" brought in between courses, very good presentation on wacky plates, good value for money. Ask for Menu in Spanish or French, attentive waiter, cool atmosphere, suggest booking if you are not arriving soon after opening at... More

The wonder of this restaurant is that you do not get much on a plate....but leave feeling very full! Each course is a journey of different flavours...all delightful!

An excellent menu and very good value. The Rioja wine was superb. Although we (four of us) were the only people in the restaurant that night, it still matched up to our previous visit. Will definitely be back again. Michelin level cuisine about very reasonable prices.

Nice place to eat with little touches between courses. Plates are not huge but full of taste. Lovely food prepared well.

Have you ever found a treasure? Well, me not. But I thought it when we had lunch in this restaurant. It's not in the right place and, inside it's not very comfortable but, what the hell! Their foods are excellent. I recommend you to divert on your GPS route and enjoy its cuisine. You'll be grateful for my opinion (;-)

We had this restaurant recommended by friends who go frequently, especially when they want to celebrate. How right they were! The food is outstanding: delicate, imaginative, unusual flavours and ingredients which somehow work perfectly when combined. Along with the attentive, but not intrusive service, we were very impressed at the level of detail: lots of amuses-bouches and palate cleansers, including... More

We were referred to El Portalet by El Occiitan who were booked out. Fortunately we managed to get a table at El Portalet because it was almost if not completely full as well. Most of the positive comments of the other writers conform with our experience save that we did not find the menu bizarre at all. It was imaginative... More

OK, for open minded people only. The flavours this restaurant puts together are bizarre to say the least and the plates are works of art. When they work, it's a wonderful experience and it's worth putting up with the occasional slightly too wacky thing. For example, my curried banana pudding was delicious but the rosemary tizane (they are very fond... More

We booked a table for 5 people for dinner. The restaurant and the welcome were warm. The decor is traditional rather than sharp chic but comfortable nonetheless. Menus in French or Spanish were available. Take a dictionary unless you're a fluent speaker as the ingredients will test a merely decent vocabulary. Or maybe just take the main meat or fish,...
