Been here many times in the past few years - it's off the beaten track but in a peaceful setting. It is no longer the Village Eatery, it's now Chasetik, a Japanese snack restaurant. This was our first time since it changed hands and a...very annoying experience. 40 minutes after ordering still no food had arrived. There were only 2 other tables so it was not busy. When we asked at the counter on our order we got a very unclear response but understood that our order had not been started by the cook or had been lost - this is despite being asked twice by a different waitress if we had ordered after we had already ordered. With this response we told them not to bother with a new order and were asked to pay 55 THB for the tea and water we had ordered. Most places would have waived this expense after wasting our time because of their error but not here. Definitely will not be returning here. It's a shame because it was a relaxing place before this take over.More

We visited restaurant first time, and with mixed emotions: We sat near the Japanese style koi pond, with bonsai trees around, on a small terrace overlooking the place. Very nice and relaxing. You may find such a setting in expensive places around the world, it...is really outstanding and alone worth the visit. The owner was friendly and attentive. However, there was no wine at all on the menu, the food was just average, nothing special at all. Also, only a few bottled beer brands in the fridge. This does not match and we feel it needs improvement. But I like to say, give them a chance and visit the place...they are trying hard!More

The place locates quite isolated from main road. I did not see anything interesting at all. The restaurant there had not many variety, not even a coffee. I am not sure if it was closed during my visit or what.

Bonsai garden n koi pond with plenty of grass n playground for the kids to play with indoor a/c available n view of sunset = wonderful atmosphere! The food is incredible and pleasing to the palate with some fun twists to dishes you may have...had before in Thailand along with plenty of drink choices to compliment the food. Reasonably priced given the quality and atmosphere and personal attention the owner provides (Thai/English). Have come back already and will be back again!More

We have been going here quite often when they just opened. The location is unique, quiet and has a playground for kids. Foodwise: always a (nice) surprise, fresh ingredients and staff is very friendly.

Our family had just arrived in the area to stay for a few days and The Village Cafe was right around the corner so we gave it a try. The building and grounds were beautiful. The restaurant itself is both modern and cozy, with a...large outdoor area. There’s a great view of the mountain as well. Our kids loved the playground and it kept them occupied while we chatted and relaxed. They have a great selection of craft beers, which was a nice change from weeks of Chang..... The food was the real star, though. We had a Pomelo salad to start and it was excellent. The salt and pepper ribs were fantastic, with just the right blend of spices on crispy pork ribs. We also loved the duck curry. Somehow the duck leg stayed crisp in its bowl of delicious red curry. Even the fried rice was especially good. The owner is very friendly and had great recommendations for both food and beer. We would highly recommend this place!More

We spent 5 weeks in the Hang Dong area and fell in love with place. The surrounding is stunning: mountain views, greenery and plants all around and a peaceful setting. We particularly liked sitting in the front veranda by the fish pond. The owner, Peter,...is a very friendly person, he likes to interact with his customers and he is very proud of his restaurant and their very talented chef, his wife! The food is delicious. Over our two visits we tried different Thai dishes and they were all spot on. Cherry on top of the cake, their eclectic selection of international beers and specialty crafted beers from Thailand and neighbouring countries. If you are looking for an evening out with food to remember, give The Village a try. You won't regret it.More

My family started to frequent this place over a year ago. Although we always loved the venue, the food and the previous restaurateur, he did nothing to promote the place and one would often be the only customers there – to the point where we...rarely visited. Was a real shame. Imagine my delight when I heard that the owners (and original proprietors) took The Village back under their wing – the impact was almost instantaneous. Chef Jaa, Pu and their son are a truly delightful family. I’m clearly not alone on this, as tables are now occupied. The Village sits on a hillside, just a couple of minutes off the Sumoeng and canal road junction in Hang Dong. It really is a hidden gem - so easy to get to, but such a peaceful place and with a lovely view - you'll enjoy 3 lines of fading blue hills on a clear day. It’s definitely notably cooler too. I don’t know if its temperature or humidity – buts it’s often a relief. HUGE garden - like a beer garden, with a swing, some climbing frames and a pond full of big carp on the boundary, as well as plenty of open space for the kids to burn themselves out. There’s loads of tables outside. The space seems to suit every occasion, from romantic sun-downers to party events - we just threw a party for our Son's 4th birthday. Jaa is not only an excellent chef, she's a wonderful baker too – her grown-ups’ carrot cake was demolished before the kids destroyed theirs – that was a first for me!!!!! It’s not the biggest venue inside, maybe 50 covers – they’re split between two wings and there’s further seating under the 2 verandas. It’s got a really nice English country pub feeling too it – I guess the 20 plus imported U.S & European beers help there! And possibly most important of all - the food is great - and I’d argue that there’s something for everyone - Crispy pork ribs in Penang curry, Pasta, duck, garlic or crab fried rice, chicken wings, cashew nut chicken, prawns on sunflower sprouts – it’s a clever menu and I understand that they’ll work out equally exciting dishes for veggies guest too. I stopped reviewing on TA last year, when they deleted my first review of a new restaurant – I was not happy - but this place is worth shouting about. SO I'M SHOUTING!More
