Among several interesting choices in the picturesque town of Chivay, Condor Travel booked for us El Bacon de Don Zacarias for lunch. It was excellent decision. Prime location next to the main town square. It was a very lovely place that offered an excellent and delicious lunch buffet, highlighting Peruvian classics. I was pleasantly surprised with the variety of the... More

This restaurant was included as part of lunch for a tour group, hence I have no idea of cost in order to determine value. Arrived early and the chef kindly walked through the items on the buffet. Mainly to appeal to tourists: 2 dishes with alpaca ( one in a gravy which I enjoyed), 1 dish with cuy also in... More

..they have a menu with Quinua soup and Alpaca steak for 17 soles which is amazing. Really good value vs the buffet which didn't look very appetizing. Alpaca tastes like beef, but I would say it is softer. The soup is worth its value on its own, and the alpaca adds to a great menu.

They have a lot of food for lunch buffet! Not very expensive too. But they do not take credit card. Prepare cash!

After a trip from Arequipa we ended up here for lunch. There was a large choice of different dishes, amongst which the Peruvian soups. A large choice of vegetables, tomatoes, cucumber, carrots etc. tomatoes stuffed with a chicken mash, fried chicken and fried local trout. The taste of the dishes was different, but on an average everything was tasting well.... More

Our group had lunch here in the restaurant at the corner of the main square in Chivay. There was a wide range of dishes all freshly prepared. When dishes ran out they were quickly replenished. It was tradiotional peruvian food where we had our first taste of guinea pig and alpaca, but there was chicken and pork for the less... More

A good selection of local Peruvian dishes were on offer for our buffet at this lively restaurant on the corner of the main square in Chivay. The food was good, varied and tasty and much better than your regular tour group buffet. Service was good too and there was some ubiquitous but pleasant live Andean music to round the meal... More

Our trip to the colca canyon included two buffet lunches of which one was at El Balcon de Don Zacharias. A section of the table was set aside for salads or boiled vegetables and the other part consisted of a hot plate on which dishes were stacked covered with cling film - presumably to keep the warm. Maybe it was... More

On a recent 14 day trip to Peru, our group meals included lots of buffets, and the food was good and certainly plentiful. One buffet stood out for its excellent food, with a reasonable number of choices (6-8 entrees), and for the enthusiasm of the chef. Chef Fabrizio at El Bacon de Don Zacarias in Chivay clearly loves to cook... More
