Maruba restaurant is highly rated and we certainly enjoyed our meal here. The owner was friendly, service good and i had a spicy curry while my wife enjoyed her nasi goreng. Price was a little more than usual, due to its popularity.

Exceptional and all from a small kitchen in the back made by an extremely talented chef. We had the babi panggang, sambal tempe and half kilo of river lobsters. Every single dish stood out on it's own and had such authentic flavours - crispy tempe with subtle sambal coating, tender and crispy babi and the best chilli sauce on the side and buttery, garlic, crispy grilled lobsters. Definitely visit - it's a lovely, charming place overlooking the river, with a cute little dog snoring on the floor as we ate lunch.

Incredible fresh cooked food with a stunning view. A family-run restaurant not to be missed during a visit to Samosir/Lake Toba. Everything is freshly cooked - Fully recommend the ikan naneura (order 8 hours in advance).

We waited 50 min just for the waitress to come out and tell us we couldn’t get what we ordered so we would have to order something else. We had to go up and get the menu cards ourselves to order again and then we waited another 40 min for a boring meal. The staff appeared rude and not service minded at all. We are usually patient but this was just bad experience.
(Nice location and view though)

Located in the middle of Tuktuk with a view of the lake. Not very nicely decorated, but very nice service and you go here for the food. Beef rendang and the lobsters, a pound is more than enough for 1 person. It is served with white rice.

We were very disappointed with this restaurant. Although the lady was nice and apologized, the food was not tasty at all to say the least. The fist was tasteless as was the special local rice she recommended. We would not go there again for sure. The only reason we give her 3 stars is because of her apologies.

N2°40.504' E98°51.481' Tucked between the Ambaroba hotel and Rodeo guesthouse on Jalal Lingkar Tuktuk in TukTuk, Maruba is definitely worth seeking out the talented owner's matchless Batak wedding food, like ikan arsik or sangsang, or go for the not so special occasion food like ikan naneura (raw fish marinated with candlestick, lime juice and spices, order 8 hours in advance) and napi napir.
In September 2023, we ordered ikan arsik, whole steamed tilapia lake fish stuffed with snake beans, batak onions and cooked with batak spices. It was hard work to remove all the bones, but the spiced lake fish tasted exquisite.
Maruba restaurant offers fresh batak dishes. Recommended.

We absolutely wanted to eat Batak food for our last lunch on Samosir island. A quick Google search brought up Maruba. Based on what we read, we decided to head there today. At 1 p.m. the restaurant was empty.
We had our doubts but hunger won and we ordered Ikan Arsik - a big Tilapia in a sour coconut sauce and Saksang. - pork cooked with spices including andaliman ( similar to sichuan pepper) and pig blood). Freshly prepared and worth the wait.
Delicious flavours🙂. On the pricier side but we left with our bellies full.

We tried the beef rendant and the curry lake fish. As we needed to order the beef rendang 1 hour before, everything was ready when we arrived.
The rendang was truly amazing and the fish was also really tasty. The staff was nice and the view is great!
Noteworthy: they only accept cash, as most of the restaurants of the island so be prepared!

A cute place with a view, tucked in Tuk Tuk village. The owner is very friendly and attentive. And the food is amazing: we had the fresh lake lobster and it was the best meal we've had in Sumatra son far.

The food was wonderful
I had beef remdang and it was more than delicious. It's also inexpensive. There's not much more to say as I can't fault this place.

I've eaten here many times, and it doesn't disappoint. Although they're not the cheapest, the food is great and the owner and staff are very friendly. The sambal temple is to die for, just as their Batak dishes. Definitely recommend it!!

Had a pleasant Batak styled lunch at Maruba's. The usage of traditional herbs in the dishes made it s unique experience.
