Many thanks for your review. We are very pleased to have customers like you. Many Thank you soon.
We were glad to find an alternative to the pizza/pasta combos everywhere and hope for something different. However, El Rodeo disappoints in every way. All "Mexican/Spanish" food looked and tasted like the cooks bought a badly written cooking book and tried the recipes with what...they could find around the kitchen. Let me explain and you'll understand that two stars rating is well deserved:
- The stuffed jalapeños had only traces of cheese and were too ripped and too hot to eat.
- Nachos: we imagine they read the recipe and asked themselves "how many to put for €4.5?" And the answer was six triangles individually presented on the plate, with a sliver of cheese in the middle of each and a slice of red chilli peppers. No guacamole was available, we asked.
- Paella of pesce and carne (30' wait, as expected) had a lot of sea food and only two barbecue wings for meat. There was no saffron but there were green beans and peas. There were even mushrooms in it, even with the filaments with dirt (the cook must have cut it and thrown everything in). There was no toasted rice at the bottom, everything was drowning in water/juices.
- chilli con carne was a thin, sour tomato sauce with white big beans and faint morsels of meat topping a runny rice mound.
Staff was dreamy, took away a plate with food without asking, could not manage to serve a macchiato and not an espresso.
Cocktails were horrible: orange juice in the tequila sunrise was the worse kind, same as the industrial grade alcohol they were using.
We ordered also a virgin piña colada, but that was impossible to get, as the cocktail was made with pre-mixed ingredients, basically pouring from a bottle and calling it a "cocktail".
You would say after everything they are doing wrong in this plastic-chairs, paper-table-cloths fast-food "restaurant", the prices would be nice. You would be wrong. They were selling tab beer at €10 a litre. More than three times what everyone around charges. The €5 cocktails I described above... Same as the six nachos for €4.5...
Paella was 20, chilli under 10.
The only good thing that earns them the second star was the huge paella. Despite the failures with the rest of the dishes, there was enough soggy rice to feed the three of us, and enough mussels to keep us busy.
We ended up regretting not ordering the pizzas, as the other reviewers, that might have saved the evening.More
We found this restaurant by chance. Service is good, the food is a combination of Mexico, Spain, Texas and Italy. The food was good, their paella was excellent and so was their chilli con carne. Good choice.
We sat down for a quick meal before going to another party! there was 4 of us. and that night nothing went right. The order was taken wrong. You think when a table of 4 end up ordering only 2 pizzas.. maybe somebody missed out?...when the pizza finally arrive my daughter ended up wearing them. As the waitress had an accident and dropped them.when the second pizzas finally arrived we saw that the waiter had forgotten to order the other 2. so insted of 2 porcini and 2 quattro stagioni we had 1 of each.
No time for another try we split the pizzas asked for the bill and left in a hurry.
