State of Origin TV broadcast on board ship

we depart Sydney harbour at 4pm for Noumea on 24th June 18, that night the 2nd State of Origin football game will be broadcast at 8pm on Channel 9 Sydney.

Sailing on the Pacific Explorer.

Does anyone know if it can be seen on the ships TV at sea at that time?

Does the ship have a sports bar that shows Rugby League games?

I'm surprised that they don't stayed tied up at the wharf with a cable to a bank of receivers just in case anything goes wrong:0 How could a dedicated Australasian league fan contemplate not having this tied down?

Haha quality answer Mike.

I tend to agree. I even took the morning off work last week for Origin 1 and I am English!

It's all about the planning!

Thanks Steven, it's weird, I will be about 100km from where the game will be being played, but not sure of seeing it as you will be, on the over side of the world.

That is why I'm asking.

We have done a few cruises on the PE when she was the Dawn Princess but have no idea what she is like since she transferred to P&O. As to whether there will be a broadcast of the State of Origin game on board will depend on P&O's licensing arrangements with the broadcaster and the quality of the satellite reception.

There was a sports bar on the Dawn Princess and I am assuming there is still a similar bar on the PE. On the trips we did there were broadcasts of rugby soccer and AFL games with the passengers watching these becoming quite vocal as they barracked for their respective teams and it was a great atmosphere.

In the ships daily newsletters there will be information of what sports broadcasts are available and when they are being telecast. Additionally you can check with the ships reception when you board to see if they have any info about what games are going to be shown.

Enjoy your cruise.

Chappo2016..

I was being flippant earlier with my reply.

Here is my serious one: i have done a lot of cruises. However i have never cruised down under. In my experience when we have been on a US ship in the caribbean and there has been a big NFL game on, they always show it somewhere.

I have had some memorable days on a cruise ship watching NFL as a complete neutral surrounded by baying US fans.

My gut feeling would be that a cruise leaving from Australian shores with a no doubt predominatly Aussie passenger list will show the game somewhere.

Want some advice? Dont book a cruise when there is a " must see " sporting event on!

Our cruising has all been in Europe, and major soccer games are usually shown somewhere, as Mike has said about NFL games in the Caribbean. I've been on two cruises when major football tournaments have been on, and from what I can rememebr, all games were shown in a couple of the bars. It helps if there's a sports bar!

As this is a pretty big game down in Australia, I'd be confident that it will be showing on board.

Thanks, everyone, I was finally able to get a very positive response from my travel agent...

The State of Origin will indeed be aired onboard! P&O have provided the below information;

“On P&O Cruises ships, Sports 24 is available. Sports 24 is a dedicated sports channel featuring worldwide live games, replays, highlights and review programs.

Australians sports coverage throughout the year, including State of Origin.

Sports 24 is also available in guest rooms, as well as casinos. The schedule for Sports 24 is available online 'http://www.sport24-tv.com' and click on Schedule.

Major sporting events, such as NRL grand finals or State of Origin, will also usually be shown on the big screen (Pacific Dawn, Pacific Explorer & Pacific Jewel), subject to weather and entertainment schedule onboard.”

Good news chappo. The only thing left to say now is go the Blues and hopefully every Bronco player gets what's coming to him.
