I am just posting this in case it is helpful to anyone else.
I recently stayed in Edinburgh, and because we were meeting up with another party we had a rental car but ended up staying at the Travelodge near Haymarket station. Parking in old town Edinbugh is a nightmare (and if you can avoid it, that should be your first choice), but we found a great solution that I wish I’d known about before I traveled.
Just behind the Haymarket station is Distillery Lane, and it is basically a blocked off street for parking. The trick is that you need the JustPark app. It’s easy to download and use, the rates are great for that area, and you can book a spot ahead of time (we just booked a spot for the 4 days we were there and it was about 25 GBP for the whole thing, and we could come and go as we pleased!
Hopefully that helps someone avoid the headaches we had trying to figure out where it was safe to park! Unfortunately JustPark can’t change the HORRIFIC construction all around town... but that seems to be the case everywhere ;p
