Hi,

You could consider three nights in Chicago, one night in Niagara Falls, three nights in DC.

You don't need a car in Chicago or DC.

Toronto is a good detour for two nights.

NYC is also a good detour for 3 to 4 nights. You don't need a car in NYC.

We visited Chicago, NYC, and DC without a car years ago. The cities has good Metro and buses.

According to the OP, it's for August 2019.

Poppy - are you intending to visit Niagara Falls from the US or Canada side? Are you planning to drive through Canada or stick to the US side?

You could consider a few nights in Sandusky Ohio to visit Cedar Point Amusement Park (if interested in that type of activity). It has often been voted as the best amusement park in the world. Lots of other stuff to do in that area, also. Take a ferry to charming Put-In-Bay and rent a golf cart to explore the island.

We visited Niagara Falls this past July with our grandkids, and we actually spent five nights/four days there and had plenty to do (but at a slow pace because they were breaking heat records the week we were there). We visited the state park on the USA side, did the Cave of the Winds tour (incredible, don't miss it), also went to the Canadian side and did Journey Behind the Falls, visited the Butterfly Observatory, went to a magic show (not my type of thing but we had free tickets, and it was actually very good), walked along White Water Rapids, saw the falls lit up at night, had lunch in charming Niagara-on-the-Lake..we found plenty to do and were planning on a day trip to Toronto, but had an emergency in the family and had to return home a day earlier than planned.

Have a great trip!

How long do you have for the whole trip? Is there more to it that this portion?

There is plenty to do between Chicago and Niagara Falls and Niagara Falls and DC so that is a far too open ended request. Please do some research about places/attractions that interest you and we can provide feedback.

Hi Sue;

Niagara Falls is approx. 80 mi / 130 km from Toronto.

You could spend an entire week in Toronto and still have plenty to see & do.

Niagara Falls (the Canadian side) requires a full 24 hours.

Ensure that the car rental company notes on the rental agreement that they authorize you to take the car into Canada. You may be asked by Customs when entering Canada, or when re-entering the US, for this documentation.

Best Regards
