Anantara advice please

Please can you help. We would like a nice hotel, good pool on a nice beach but would like to be able to eat out for lunch and dinner. A nice walk along a beach would be perfect.

I like the look of the Anantara but I am worried that outside the hotel is tacky and Russian oriented. Obviously going to Vietnam I would like a Vietnamese influence with a few nice western choices for our fussy daughter. Can anyone help?

Unfortunately "tacky and Russian" is common in Vietnam and fussy is not well catered for. Vietnam , I find, is more of an adventure in culture.

Those that want a perfect hotel and perfect beach with a Mcdonalds next door usually go home disappointed.

The Anantara is a nice hotel and it is surrounded by lots of good restaurants, both Vietnamese and western. Although it is in western Ham Tien, which is heavily Russian, the Russian market is down considerably so you shouldn't be overwhelmed by them.

If you want a more local feel, then stay in Mui Ne rather than Ham Tien. However, there are no western restaurants in Mui Ne, outside of the resort restaurants. So, you'll have to choose what is more important; being around local residents, or being close to western restaurants. In Phan Thiet, you can't have both unless you stay in the city center, but then you'll be in the middle of a medium size city, rather than along a beach full of resorts.

In the centre of Ham Tien there a are few very nice Resorts like Villa Aria, Coco Beach and Blue Ocean a bit further west. The position of these is very good for beach, entertainment, restaurants etc and are not Moscow influenced that much.

As Steve says there are very nice Resorts like Steve's Pandanus and Full Moon Village over on the next Bay at Mui Ne but are a little restricted by Restaurant and entertainment options, unless you are prepared to taxi or shuttle back into Ham Tien.

Cheers Ross
