Terry M - Not sure why you keep saying this. Here is a copy the letter establishing the fee:

https://tnkepulauantogean.id/website/detailnews/13

Jakarta implemented a 150,000IDR per person PER DAY fee for every National Park in the country back in 2014, it just hasn't been implemented in TNKT until late 2017. AND the fact that they're only charging it on a per-visit basis (not daily) seems fairly generous, considering.

Granted it's fair to be concerned about how much of that money goes to protection and conservation, and unfortunately a lot of that comes down to who is in Kepala Balai of the park at any give time (they change somewhat regularly). Good leaders can do good things. Corrupt leaders... well it's fascinating how quickly the culture of corruption trickles down to the anak bua throughout the ranks.

Though all I've seen recently are increased patrols and increased restoration projects... so here's hoping we're on the right track.

Not sure what kind of experience you had regarding the National Park tickets Terry. If it was negative then I'm sorry to hear you had that experience.

Just to make it clear though for visitors about the National Park fee which is set by Central Government in Jakarta.

It's 150,000 payable once (That should be the daily rate but it's only being charged once as you enter the park). Visitors coming from Ampana will usually have to buy it at the harbour in Ampana before getting on the boat to the islands. Visitors coming from Gorontalo will be asked for the fee as they disembark in Wakai. Always make sure you get an actual paper ticket with a number on it when you pay. If you are not given this, then please report this to the National Park office or ask your resort to help you report this as soon as possible as the National Park pay outside people to collect the fees.

The park have recently purchased speedboats for all 3 sections of the park area to conduct patrols and other activities. They are sponsoring and supporting community projects for alternative incomes and conservation activities, they are transplanting corals in all 3 areas and making coral nurseries for future transplanting stock and they have been monitoring condition of reefs, surveying seagrass, populations of animals such as the babirusa (wild pig), building a new mangrove walk near Wakai, doing mangrove planting with local communities, collecting Crown of Thorns starfish, hosting training for local guides and more besides.

They need the support of tourists paying the entrance fee and are actively trying to make improvements for local community and visitors alike across the islands. They have also been giving support in kind to a new emerging NGO starting up in Conservation in Togean Islands.

If you have any concerns about the ticketing process, best to voice them at the time, but I'm sure you will enjoy your stay in Togean Islands National Park and if you see the National Park out on the water, give them a smile, a wave and a cheer of support.
