The city ( panama city) empties out during Carnivale - the big parties are in the smaller towns - I am not sure about Santa catalina but I would not venture to any small town around Carnavale without a reservation - for expample - Las Tablas is usually booked a year in advance.

the village of santa catalina gets totally full during carnival, right now is the time to book,if not too late!!!

if you arrive here on the 17th,this is already the Friday beginning of carnival week-end,so you will not find a room for sure ,and this is in any small village in the country,so do make sure you plan carefully and reserve now,or you will find yourself having to go to Panama city to find a room
