Playa Carrillo steep hill

Hello

Going to Playa Carrillo in 2 weeks. I was enticed by the reviews I read on Tripadvisor. Can anyone give me an idea how steep the hill is from the road where the hotels are to get to the beach?

Thank you.

Steep enough that if you rode down on a skate board you could probably launch off the hairpin turn and make it clean over the palm trees and into the ocean at high tide.

It's very short maybe 150 meters but steep.

Well I'd walk up it but I wouldn't make it up on a bike (I'm not much of a biker). You don't need 4wd as the road is paved & in good shape. There are no sidewalks so you're not going to want kids walking it unaccompanied. It's just a hill - no big deal.

Actually it depends on the hotel. If you are staying at the new Nammbu, the walk from the pool area is a little steep (but manageable) and very short.

@CanaTico - have you stayed at the Nammbu? Heard it's a pretty nice transformation of the property but haven't made it down yet.

Just a tour but yes it is amazing. Same owners as El Establo in Monteverde.

@CanaTico - "Same owners as El Establo in Monteverde."

Well they should know about hills anyway. Just wondering is that meant to be an endorsement or a warning?

Just a fact! They do get pretty good reviews.

A lot of people blame El Establo for "destroying" Monteverde by putting in a huge development and I was wondering if the same fate awaited Carrillo. One of my favorite quaint beaches headed for mega-resort oblivion.

WeI have never heard that about El Establo but rest assured that Nammbu is anything but a "Huge Development"

Thank you, All, for your replies @costaricaguide @crfan @canatico

We are planning on staying at Hotel Esperanza. I hope it is as short and manageable as you describe. I know I will not be the first person to negotiate the hill. I just don't want to get there and see wall-climbing type of steepness.
