Noumea to Kone - self-drive or bus

Question

Hello

I could leave Noumea to go to Kone & Voh on 24/september (Saturday) and must return the next evening. Considering two options:

1. Self-drive to Kone, stopping at a few points of interest along the way, stay overnight at Koniambo (Kone), 4wd tour to Voh next morning and return to Noumea sunday evening

2. Take the 11:30 bus from Noumea to Kone. stay overnight at Kone, Taxi to Voh (any buses?), 4wd tour, taxi back to Kone, and bus back to Noumea.

I have tried researching a lot but unable to find a) transportation between Kone and Voh and 2) return bus timings from Kone to Noumea on sunday late afternoon or evenings ( i understand there are 3 bus trips daily)

For some reason, they are still not on the bus network official website, which suggests to contact their free information line: http://www.rai.nc/index.html

Several lines stop in both Koné and Voh. Yet a little more expensive, a car rental will probably prove to be more flexible, especially as the bus should be on schedule when departing Noumea, but maybe a little less around Koné, after several hours on the road.

thank you. yes, it is a long way to go . heart of voh is the main interest, but I may as well rent a car and stop at a couple of sights at Bourail.

thank you nico_nc. Just returned from New Caledonia and I did take the bus option to Kone.

For anyone considering this, a few more details:

1. The bus station "Gare Routiere" is a couple of minutes from Port Moselle/Wharf/Market. Look for Cine City building and the bus station is near it. You can't miss it with so many orange buses moving around

2. Ticket from Noumea to Kone is 1190 CPF. Either buy the ticket at the ticket counter or from the driver.

3. Bus started on time. Takes 4-hours approximately. A very pleasant ride. Either a movie is screened (we got to see Point Break – French dubbing) or English songs are played.

4.The bus stops for 10-minutes at Bourail for a smoker’s stop.

5. Kone has two stops. One is Province Nord (listed as Kone HPN in the timetables) and the next at town centre. If you’re staying at any of the town hotels (e.g. Hibiscus), it is just a 2-minute walk from the bus stop.

6. Pretty much all the buses that go past Kone stop there. I took the one that went Noumea to Koumac.

7. On return, the bus arrived on time at Kone
