Mawlaymine to Ngwe Saung in a day.

Hi all

Just wanted to check the current status of buses from Mawlaymine to Ngwe Saung, via Yangon. Appreciate it'll be a bit of a long day, but wanted to save a stop over in Yangon and get all the travelling done in a day.

I've read the first bus out of Mawlaymine is at 8am, so should get to Yangon at 2pm. Is there a mid afternoon bus that we could take, or will we have to wait until the night bus at 9pm?

How easy is it to go via Pathein and taxi if that's our only option? Should be a Thursday if that helps.

Thank you all for any help you can offer.

Matt

the first busses from mawlamyaing will arrive at the northern bus station in yangon, it will be around 2pm, but the busses to ngwesaung ( all go via pathein, there is no other way) depart from the western bus station, an hour travel time. so at 3pm there will still be busses to pathein, but for the last part, 7-9 pm, you probably need an expensive taxi, or a very uncomfortable local bus, or better stay overnight in pathein. if there is a nightbus from yangon at 9pm, as you said, it will arrive at 3 am at ngwesaung beach, so you maybe have to pay for 2 nights.

Dear Bongomountain,

There is no direct bus to Ngwe Saung and no mid afternoon bus to Ngwe Saung from Yangon too. So, you have to wait the night bus.

Firstly, you have to take a day bus to Yangon (Mandalar Min Express _VIP (2+1) - 08:30 15:30). Then relax in Yangon. Then take a night bus (Asia Dragon or Golden Star Express_ 2100-0430).

It is easy to go via Pathein because all the buses run across Pathein to Ngwe Saung Beach. You can find local bus, an uncomfortable one, to Ngwe Saung at Pathein Bus Station. The rental rate of taxi may be expensive.

Just note that the Asia Dragon bus does NOT leave from the southern bus terminal but instead from the much more convenient location opposite the main train station.

Ok great - thanks all for your help.

How late do the local buses run from Pathein to Ngwe Saung? And how much would the very expensive taxi (Pathein to Ngwe Saung) cost if we missed the last local bus?

Thanks again.

hi

there is no fixed schedule in the nighttime for local busses on this remote road, they will run, if there is enough demand. most locals order tickets via telefon, if enough people are going, there could be a bus at 8pm, but that is extremely unlikely .most myanmar people go to bed at 8pm. the price for a taxi depends on the mood of the driver, but nobody likes to go at night, many potholes, many hills and sharp curves, many vehicles without any light ( bicycles, oxcarts, even motobikes or cars), some buffaloes or dogs on the road, i think, a taxidriver, if you find one, will ask for 100-150 dollars at least for this 2 hours, because he must go back, next day too tired for working.
