Whale Watching in Sri Lanka

We are going to Sri Lanka on Wed 19 April 17 for 11 days, we will be staying for the final 6 nights in Waskaduwa at the Citrus Hotel after taking in two safaris in the national parks. We would like to take in a whale watching trip and we have contacted several companies but as yet no-one has replied to us. Could any one suggest someone that could help us with this or is it that we are too far away from where the trips depart? Any help would be much appreciated. Also any other recommendations for the area and trips to do would be welcomed.

Thank you in advance

Mandy and Tim

Whale watching is also seasonal in sri lanka. Nov-May Mirissa is the location for depart. But as you guess Waskaduwa is too far from Mirissa and boats sailing starts 7-7.30 am, so very early wake up needed if you do it with the base of Waskaduwa.

Roughly 2 hrs travel time from Waskaduwa to Mirissa.

Hi :-) We will be on Hikkaduwa around the same time - it's getting towards the end of the season in the South, You are a good bit further North than us - would be a very silly-early set off ( especially if there's a chance it may be blown off with sea conditions.

We HAVE had replies form the following -

Raja & The Whales Raja <rajaandthewhales@gmail.com>

The first is an (ex ? ) Navy boat out at Galle, which may be more stable in bad conditions ( and nearer )

The second is very highly rated on this site ( both have websites )

Good luck with trip.....

Sole company operating from Galle is SL Navy (to best of my knowledge). That big boat makes huge noise and drives away animals (not animal friendly) often not recommend in this forum. Simply Mirisssa 45 mins drive from Galle.
