Road Trip - Bryce to Moab

Hello - My husband and I are planning a road trip to see Utah's mighty 5. On day of our itinerary we plan to drive from Bryce to Moab. We plan to watch the sunrise in Bryce; possibly do a hike in the morning or just do the scenic drive and then head out to Moab where we have a reservation for the same night. I am wondering, in your opinion, is it worth it to travel to and stop at all in Capitol Reef along the way? Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Your drive is a good 5 hours and Capital Reef is rather large. Maybe check out Goblin Valley State Park on the way to Moab.

We are planning the same drive in August via Route 12 and a quick stop in Goblin Valley, following this blogger’s road trip (see day 4). It will be the longest drive of our 15 day road trip, but we’re going to leave right after sunrise and make a day of it. https:/…

Well you can't really say you are visiting the Mighty Five if you don't spend time at Capitol Reef now right?

I would definitely take the route along Hwy 12 through Boulder to Capitol Reef. Beautiful drive and worthwhile.

You are short changing it to try to do it in one day, but if your time is short it is still a good way to go.

If you have the time however plan at least one night in Torrey so you can enjoy the drive and Capitol Reef better.

The best plan would be to stay overnight in Torrey, Utah so you don’t have to rush over highway 12 and can at least drive the scenic drive into the park and maybe do a hike. But if you don’t have another night, get an early start from Bryce, drive highway 12 with minimal stops, drive the 20 mile round trip at Capitol Reef and maybe get some pie at Giffords in the Historic Fruita district inside the park.

And, yes, you really aren’t isiting the Mighty Five if you skip Capitol Reef.

We always take at least 2 days between Bryce and Moab with an overnight stay at Torrey.,
