Beautiful Lake stones?

I have seen some pictures of some beautifully colored stones along a lakeshore in glacier national park. Can anyone tell me where I might find these rocks? Thank you!

We are staying for 5 nights in many glacier and plan on doing many of the major hikes, but also love all types of photography.

Probably the pictures you have seen are from Lake McDonald, but they can be found in other areas of the park as well.

Lake McDonald and Kintla Lake are the 2 where they are most noticeable

The pics are taken with a filter. We also went looking for them last summer at Lake MacDonald.

You can see them in Two Medicine Lake as well as other lakes in the park. You can drive to Two Medicine Lake just like Lake McDonald pretty easily.

Lake McDonald, areas of McDonald creek and most other lake shores in the park. At the moment some of the rivers have been flooding and are muddier than normal...that should clear up. Lake McDonald tends to be a calmer lake. East side lakes sometimes have winds that cause the lakes to white-cap a lot, making photos through the water nearly impossible.

If you are taking a rental car...DO NOT EVEN TRY to drive the off-road track to Kintla Lake. Rental car companies here prohibit off road even if you rent a 4WD, high clearance vehicle from them without an $$ waiver. You would also be out of cell range and a long long time from any mechanical or towing help. It could ruin your budget and your trip. On the other hand there are some very cool pictures to be had up at Polebridge where the Historic Red Mercantile and its bakery is located.

We are photographers too...no matter where you go you will be shooting pix. This area is spectacular for scenery, Fire burn areas and the new floral blanket beneath the dead trees, wildflowers, a bit of wildlife with a zoom lens and a nice daylight filter to pop the colors. Do try to bring binoculars for wildlife viewing as well. Sometimes the animals are just far enough away to look like white, brown or black dots.

If you take some of the smaller turnouts along the Lake McDonald...and walk down to the lake...you will also find some gnarly tree roots to include in your shots.
