Avoiding Las Vegas, driving thru Nevada

it looks like Great Basin might be something to see = we are driving from Denver and will stop for one night in Utah [possibly Moab] and then drive into NV = but the problem is I know zero about NV and we will only have the day to drive across to W. side or into CA = I looked at stopping in Ely or in Tonopah, but wasn't sure. I love to do photography so know there will be neat things to see and shoot. Any suggestions??? Thanks.

Not a daydrive from Moab to, let's say, Lake Tahoe. Ely has ample lodging and I prefer it to Tonopah. Where are you heading in Ca? You also may use the Road Trips forum for some thoughts on your itinerary. Also check out "Loneliest Road in America" aka us50 Crossing Nevada is a great Basin and Range drive.

Also maybe check out the Great Basin NP forum. Lots of info there.
