3-4 Day Overnight Hike

Hey Everyone,

My friend and I are looking to plan a trip to the Seattle area for some outdoor fun (probably late summer). The plan is to do a 3 to 4 day hike, while camping in the park each night. We can probably average 12-18 miles per day, depending on the terrain.

We did this once on a section of the Appalachian trail. We were able to find a place to park that offered shuttle rides to our starting point, and then we hiked back to our car. Does anyone know of something like that in, or around, Mount Rainier National Park? Or maybe Olympic National Park?

Otherwise, we could hike a loop. Hoping some of you could offer some great suggestions on a hiking path. We're skilled (enough - both eagle scouts) in hiking and camping, and can handle moderate to difficult terrain. We're traveling quite a ways to get here (coming from Wisconsin) so we want to get the biggest bang for our buck, (so don't be afraid to suggest something difficult if its going to have a big payoff, that kind of what we're looking for).

Any tips or suggestion you can offer would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Permits are required for any backcountry camping at Rainier, and they are TOUGH to get, so there, it's going to be, show up at the wilderness permit center and take what you can get. Demand has gotten absolutely overwhelming. There are zero permits left for anything on the Wonderland Trail, and most of the park's backcountry campsites, and most everything you'd make a loop out of, are on the Wonderland Trail. If you can go on weekdays you'll have a better chance of getting something. I don't know of any shuttle services at Rainier.

Olympic won't be so hard because they don't impose quotas on every location. I'll let the ONP experts suggest routes. If it were me I'd get one or both of these books and really see what's out there. https:/…1594851107
