What is the weather like, particularly the amount and duration of rain during the months of Sept-Nov? I want to plan a trip in those months and didn't know if it was worth going here if it rains hard all day or is it intermitten through the day?

I would look here to see rainfall patterns throughout the year. http://costa-rica-guide.com/Weather/WeatherMap.html
Chachagua is on the Caribbean slope so would be more affected by those weather patterns that time of year.
If you look on the weather map for Arenal and San Carlos, you can see that September and October tend to be the rainiest months.
There's no way to really predict what will happen. This past year has been drier in many areas than most years. But whether that's just a one-year phenomenon or a trend is yet to be seen.
It could rain all day, it could rain off and on, it could be clear (or cloudy) in the morning and rain late in the afternoon.
Your best source of information will be someone who lives in the area -- perhaps someone at the hotel where you are thinking of staying. It's possible that someone in the area has a home weather system.
Edited: 12 years agoIt is hard to tell about weather normally good weather and less rain in the Caribbean of Costa Rica. For the Pacific and central area September and October are the rainiest months
