Few questions from a young couple visiting early May

It’s our first time visiting and really looking forward to it. Just had a few questions. Our time will be split between Rendezvous Bay and Meads Bay.

1. Does the crowd change on Sunday Fundays? Meaning is there a cruise ship/day crowd from St. Martin turn out at Sushine Shack or Gwen’s?

2. As much as we definitely look forward to some rum punches, do you know places in town that offer Sauvignon Blanc wine from NZ? We’re not snobs, just the wife’s drink of choice. I saw Veya has it on their menu.

3. Would it be better to go out on Thursday or Friday evening in Sandy Ground?

4. Is it possible to walk to The Reef(Breezes) by foot from Rendezvous Bay beach? Ex. From Sunshine Shack. We’re young and don’t mind walking.

5. What is the status for Dune Preserve being open?

Thanks everyone!

When I say our time being split, I mean where we our accommodations will be.

No, it is tourists and locals, no cruisers.

Jacala has it as well, possibly Straw Hat too.

3. Would it be better to go out on Thursday or Friday evening in Sandy Ground?

Thursday for Musical Bros at Elvis'

You could try it, but I am not sure you can get around the point without going in the water.

5. What is the status for Dune Preserve being open?

Dune is closed, no reopening plans at this time.

Thanks everyone!

Ellen:

You are just phenomenal. Where you get all this information I'll never know.

You are definitely the Sentinel of the forum.

Number 4-It can be done but you have to walk over rough rocks and go on some private property to do it.

On the walk to The Reef from Rendezvous -- we tried last year and were thwarted at the point because we weren't wearing shoes (got too rocky to stay on the public beach area -- you would need Tevas or similar, not flip flops) and inland is private property. If you're checking out Cove Bay, the walk from that direction was doable in flip flops.

Thank you Ellen and everyone else. We’ll take a raincheck as far as going on private property etc.

A few additional thoughts - If you're considering Gwen's, perhaps you have a car. If so, it'll be a very easy drive to the Reef. The hotel's grounds are quite lovely in the evening, as you walk down to the restaurant, and the view towards St. Martin is also lovely. We thought their lobster pizza was fabulous.

Ellen suggested venues which may serve NZ wine. Consider, however, that you will be much closer to Europe, and many restaurants have great bottles of French SB from Bordeaux. An excellent wine shop can be found on the main road, next to Village Bakery (also worth a stop itself!).

There's some construction on the Dune, but it'll be a while before it opens.

I’m going to give a different answer for #1... we have definitely seen st Martin day cruisers come to Gwen’s, Tropical Sunset, Hanks, Madeariman, and Elodias on Sunday. Half the fun is watching them come in. It never makes it feel over crowded as there is plenty of room for all but it definitely makes for great people watching. It’s not like cruise ships, it smaller charters with a max of 10 usually.

beachfan101: Yes, there have been daytrippers from SXM in the past, but not so much now. Many of the SXM hotels & timeshares are not yet online, plus no dolphins in AXA (!) hence no guests staying and no daytrips to AXA. I'm sure they will resume at some point. Only daytrip I have seen is the Lambada coming to Roy's occasionally for lunch.
